That sucks, I really wanted to join a company that had 10spds even a 9 is fine with me as long as I can keep shifting. I applied with western express but I haven't called them back because I know they run all automatic volvos.. but I guess I might haha

Sorry to hear that bud, and thanks for the heads up, I too am overweight. I was at orientation with Celadon in Denver this week but got disqualified because I didn't pass my roadtest and they didn't seem to want to give me another chance. I did go to concentra and I got a 2 year card, they did gave some paperwork to fill out concerning the sleep apnea because my BMI is 35% and my neck size is 17 I think, but I answered good and didn't have to take the test lol. But from what you're saying I am a bit scared because it seems like I won't be able to get on with Knight this Monday if their physical is that strict and what not, might have to give Western Express a call instead, or just get a ####ty 8-10 Hr job here in the city and try to lose some weight. I just can't afford to live off one of those jobs and to be honest I am tired of them and all their ######## lol.

Did they describe *what* they were looking for in the physical? I'm 6' and 220lbs with a heartrate of 140/90. I get a little worried about wasting time and effort schlepping all the way to AZ only to get rejected.

You won’t be disqualified from getting your DOT card if you have high blood pressure, but you will be required to keep it under control with medical treatment.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) state that:

    • Drivers with less than 140 systolic and 90 diastolic can receive a two-year card
    • Drivers with a systolic measurement of up to 159 or a diastolic measurement of up to 99 can receive a one-year card
    • Measurements over 160/100 will receive a three-month card so he can go back to his doctor for antihypertensive drug therapy. After the three months, if the blood pressure readings have gone down, he can receive a one-year card and will be reassessed annually after that

Well they did not give me much info. But What I believe it was my heart rate. It was a bad combo of factors. My resting heart rate was at 125 my blood pressure was like 140 over 80. I am sure it went way up while doing their work out routine witch by the end I was beat red sweating heavy and breathing heavy.

But I as I said was a bad combo of factors with my heart rate. I had worn the wrong cloths. I was in jeans and a undershirt with a button down shirt. I was hot and uncomfortable. They had just feed us lunch right before loading us in a hot van driving us over to a secondary terminal and we were waiting in a muggy waiting room. I was very nervous and while my blood pressure was fine my pulse was just too high. I am out of shape and while I did make it thru there workout program I am sure my heart was pumping very fast at the end.

I drove for 8 months at swift ort and I never had to do anything like they were simulating with all the lifting and pulling and stepping/squatting and what not. But it is what it is. If I had known what I know now I would have started some type of work out routine a couple of months back and worn more appropriate clothing and would have skipped eating lunch.

Man, I'm so discouraged right now, I have orientation coming up monday and I haven't worked for about 2 months, I finally felt like Knight was going to give me a chance and go out with a trainer and what not but now that you said how it is... #### I'm scared I might also fail and not pass their physical.. I guess I'll have to try Western Express and see how it goes. I will still go to orientation but it's going to suck waiting around for another week if I fail to go to the next company's orientation..

Do not let what happened to me keep you from at least trying. I would go and give it a chance. Just don't eat before taking the physical and ware loose fitting clothing, try and stay calm and relaxed and breath deep and slow to keep your heart rate down and try your best. I am very much out of shape and you have to remember my past 4 years have been sitting in a chair taking customer service calls work at home, After work I would log on to My WOW account and play till about 11 pm and then go to bed.

I am very much the average fat man that seems to be plaguing America, I like to eat to much fried food and have a weakness for ice cream and I eat at the wrong times.

Go and do your best. Knight is a far better company then western express from what I have read from other current and former drivers on this bored.
