Put it to you this way: I've done a lot of different things in my life, and now that I've been on my butt at home since injuring myself at work over a year ago, I miss the road DESPERATELY. From time to time, I do wish that I had gotten into this life much sooner.

I just got out of driving after 14 yrs. Got me a job as a plastic pipe fuser for the gas company, 4 10 hr days M-T, pay is good but if I spend anymore time with the wife I may be divorced soon. Trucking was good to me, got a house vehicles and general stuff through trucking. Just time to move on......for now.

You won't have a life outside the truck, miserable or otherwise.

My best advice is to try and get yourself into a position where you can drive 6-9 months out of the year and do some other type of work the other. (then return to same carrier) I like trucking, but I get tired of it after a while but after I've left, I want to hit the road again, after a while. So do both! or "semi-retire"

Nothing says you have to do one job or the other all 12 months.

it's not miserable at all, it's easy and it's good money. I am hoping to buy my own house in couple of months, but the problem is I don't know where and I am in my low twenties. The thing that scares me the most, that one day in the future I'll wake up with 3mil miles, no kids, no wife, grey hair and ask myself "what the hell have I done with my life?"

"Semi-retired", is getting up, drive half way to work, then turn around and go back home.
