Trucking has been very different for me and Denali-Dad. I have been thinking about how different our experiences in trucking differ.
I am a third generation trucker with 30 years of experience. I have been around trucking since birth.
Trucking for me has come fairly easy. I have always enjoyed the freedom, and independence of the job. Truck driving for me has been about figuring things out on my own. That means either by trial and error or seeking out others for advice.
The difference with Danali-Dad is he was not allowed the freedom and independence of the job. He was under total control of the trucking company. He was never allowed to think on his own.
I think Denali-Dads idea of trucking when he wanted to check off his bucket list was more in line with my world. I think he was looking for freedom and independence. The ability to work at his own pace, think for himself, and enjoy those freedoms.
This is just some of my thoughts. I wish Denali-Dad the best. I hope he finds what he is looking for. I hope he has experienced many sunsets in his short driving career. My advice is to remember the sunsets and not dwell on all the negatives you experienced.

It's not the "trucking" part of it as much as it's the flatbed part of it. I never wanted to do it and from the beginning knew I was too old for it, but at the time, it was the only option available to me. I gave it 3 months and got out before I hurt myself badly.

For me, it's important to remember that I am not a "truck driver." I "drive a truck" ... for a while. It's the difference between what I do and what/who I am.

You should look into Holland or Great Plains. Those guys seem to be all of what you are looking for.
