You're right. I wouldn't want to start any fires from all the smoke...

One thing's for sure, there's no parking etiquette with respect to backing. Like the pole out in front of a spot, protecting something where trucks tend to run out of space (fair enough, "I got this")... but then they'll drop a trailer in front of the pole!

Or there's the trucker that parks across a few dock spaces, to go inside and wait to find out where to back... that guy made a profession of showing up just when I was done for the day, exept for me having to park there. Always a different truck ludicrousy making an appearance, two seconds before I pulled in, like clockwork.

Then there was the box truck driver, who, just as I'm about to start up and swing wide out of a parking lot, pulled directly in the way of that, got out, and sprinted for the Subway around the corner... he wasn't delivering to that lot (city driving for you). Then I'm having to back midway out to get my truck around the vehicle, while surrounded by traffic that sped up and stopped in the way of my new and improved swing, and a lady with a baby carriage walks behind my truck. Total setup!

I'm going to take a wild guess and say you haven't heard of the newest fmcsa covert operation.

It's involving a series of activities designed to wear down truckers until they eventually make a mistake. This enables more of the public to believe we need another senseless rule added.

The entire operation has been dubbed S.C.R.U.B. or, Senseless & Convoluted Rules Undermine Barbarians.

It's multifaceted, but starts with operatives known by the code name, S.A.T. or Sue All Truckers. The general population calls them ambulance chasers.

Their exploits are documented and shared by another group known as N.E.W.S. or Negative Education of Widespread Stupidity.

But these are only the agents we can't interact with. It also includes field agents. These may include, but are not limited to P.E.D.S. (Pedestrians entering danger stupidly), T.R.A.F.F.I.C (Travelling Reckless Agents F*** Fastedious Commercial-drivers), and M.E.G.A.S. (Monopolizing enterprises generate asinine stupidity.).

You should arm yourself well against this group.. I suspect the fmcsa is onto me though, my double agent hasn't reported back in the last week. Last transmission talked about E.L.O.G.S. (Electronic Logging Officially...) but was interrupted prior to finishing.

Ah yes "The Set up". It's been around for years. Sometimes it's totally random and other times artificially manufactured. It's like a 6th sense after a few "set ups". You'll be going along minding your own business and it creeps up on you. "Wait a minute."! I smell a set up.

And I still can't back up properly. Takes me a bunch of pull ups. Never learned how to do an alley dock here in Texas when I was in school, not required on the CDL test.
For some reason, the truck never seems to be at the proper 90 degree angle to where I'm backing in, yet when I get out and look, it's right on. So it takes me a few minutes to get everything nice and straight.
So just there and be amused, it's do your heart good to laugh instead of grumble...

I always get out of the truck and place my orange safety cones in my work area. I have yellow chains that connect the cones and completely block everyone out. Every 3rd cone has a yellow flashing light and very 4th cone is a red flashing light. If I am at a Pilot, I add the blue lights to ever other cone.

If someone comes in my work zone and I hit them, well it is on them. I had my cones out.
