    Thanks again for the info.

I was wondering the same thing about being experienced. However, according to Roehl, in my area at least, they will take a student for the 7/7 fleet. I can assume one of two things here.

    1) They are like a lot of trucking companies that will tell me, sure, 7/7 no problem, only to recant this when training is over, advising me national van is my only option.

    OR

    2) They are actually an honest company like I have read about, and because of the need to fill the 7/7 fleet near my area, will keep their word, and allow me into it.

I know a lot of people are probably thinking, why would anyone want that fleet. The money is got to be pretty low because your really working only 1/2 the year. But it fits my plan. My good friend works for a local LTL company, which is also a union outfit. I have spoken with the terminal manager, and if I can get one year under my belt, they will hire me on as a local driver or terminal-terminal road driver. That's what I really want. I don't mind the long days. So I thought, the 7/7 fleet is a win-win....I get my experience, and Roehl gets a dedicated, non complaining employee for at least a year, or longer if its working out. I figure the 7 days I would be out, I would do whatever they wanted, no questions asked, as long as they give me my 7 days back home as promised. If I were single, I wouldnt mind being out, but in the interest of keeping my marriage a good one, its what works for me.

I run the 7/7 out of Carnesville, Ga. I start on Saturday and get home most of the time on Friday, but sometimes on Saturday. I have not been slip seating for almost a year now, so I get to leave all my stuff in the truck.

Something to think about is the money, not much for 2 weeks, no vacation, no paid holidays, but lots of hometime which I like very much. You will get DH miles to get you home if no relay is possible.

    Hope this helps you some..

Rimshot, thanks so much for your input ( and everyone else too). So, it sounds like Roehl does in fact do what they say, most of the time then. Of course things come up, I understand, but overall your getting your 7 off like promised most of the time. Cool.

That's what I am looking for. No doubt about it. I don't care about the lack of vacation or paid holidays. And I know the pay is less, because your driving less, its a compromise. I am surprised that they don't slip seat you though, its got to be costing them money to have that truck sitting all week. Is it because they don't have any other drivers? Do they ever pressure you to go out early because the truck is now sitting? Also, when you took the 7/7 fleet, were you a student, or experienced driver?

Roehl has their own school, and with the info you guys have provided, I am just about ready to see about going forward. I can make the 7/7 work for me, and my long term goals.
