I pulled flatbed for Swift for 2 years and just recently quit. I would say we hauled more interesting stuff than Maverick and TMC but that's a matter of opinion. Pay was decent I made 47cpm for loaded miles and mid 30s empty. Made about 55k in 2014 and I quit in late november so that's about 11 months pay. Here's some random pics.
n3ss, Lepton1 and truckthatpassesyouby Thank this. -
Correct there is a shortage of trainers and the hiring area is not as large as some other flatbed companies.

That's awesome, thank you!

Not if you know what your doing... To many are scared to jump in and own a truck and trailer, as for flatbed, it used to be a thinking mans game, and if swift is in flatbed I'm glad in not hauling flat anymore, bc they will do the same thing to flat they did to van, drive everyone else's prices down so low that only dumb ##### that drive for pennies will haul it, I'm glad I haul oversize and stepdeck, and I hope swift crumbles and dies a horrible death, they and several other mega carriers are screwing everything up royally,

Uhh swift flatbed is all contract freight and stuff going in and out of mexico, I know when we were short on trucks for the RV chassis (see pic 5 above) we would broker out to Landstar and pay their drivers 2.20cpm plus fsc after landstars cut... But keep telling yourself that you are the victim and big bad swift is out to get you.

That's ridiculous. Swift has step decks and RGNs also.

When Jerry Moyes first started SWIFT it was a flatbed outfit

Swift has had flatbeds in various parts of the country for years. I remember seeing big multi-axle flats running out of their Gary IN terminal hauling steel back in the late 90's. I'm pretty sure they still have daycabs pulling flats and curtain vans around SLC. When I worked for my old boss our bread and butter was the Home Depot contract out of Clearfield UT back up to the stores in MT. Swift has a person at the DC that schedules all the loads. They would let us know what stores on what days and all unload info had to be emailed to them. The big companies have their hands in more stuff than people realize, and it's not all buck a mile dry van loads.

Well when I started driving I was driving for star transport out of Morton Illinois, they sucked real bad so I bought my own truck, shortly there after swift bought star transport out of Morton bc the owner was a coke head and snorted star out of business, the trainer I had a at star is one of my good friends, he stayed through the swap and told me what swift pays there drivers and there owner ops... No thanks, there is a reason NOBODY likes swift out on the road, and if there getting paid real good to hual flatbed they pay there drivers crap, d I have never seen a swift truck pulling step or rgn, and I've been on the road almost 4 years straight and I don't run specific lanes, I run all over the country, there might be a few, but I've never seen it, and most of the loads I hual pay over 3bucks a mile, so I am not downing swift drivers, my whole original comment was about being an owner operator, and I have talked to more than enough people that have told me how horrible swift is that have worked there,!so they have first experience..tsavory Thanks this.
