HA HA HA!!! I know the feeling all too tell. Our Rood Trucking trucks are governed at 55 and have been for quite some time. Certain runs enable 65, but the majority are 55.

 

and they took half our torque

 

So the answer is:

1) Turn down loads over 25K lbs
2) Turn down loads where must drive routes with big mtns
3) Dont drive down South in the summer, and up North in the winter (to min idle)!!

These trucking co.s are soo ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No one is mentioning the worst part as far as the general motoring public goes; if the 4wheelers stay at maximum speed limits, and trucks get turned down by speed governors, there's going to be more accidents. Its been proven that split speed limits regarding cars vs trucks cause more accidents due to the difference in the speeds! The 4wheelers come barreling up on a slow moving big truck, don't adjust their speed in time, then bang! You've got a serious accident! There's nothing safe about an 80,000 pound rolling road block!!!

 

In addition, the reason why some big trucks will get somewhat worse milage is the GEARING. God help we truckers!

 

I completely agree on the gearing. I really think if the 10 speed in my truck just had 2 extra gears the mileage would increase quite a bit. With them turning down the max speed, I'll be dropping a gear to go up hills, at a higher RPM, throwing more fuel out the smoke stacks. 1500 RPM at 65MPH could be improved on. Perhaps a gear where you're at ~1200 RPM at 60MPH, and another where you're at ~1200 RPM at 65MPH would improve fuel mileage. I've never tried the big 18-speeds, but I'd assume they have a ratio where you can be at a lower RPM at those speeds.

 

BTC is still at 65. Actually, you can go to 67, and even more if you know a few tricks. The engine brake automatically engages at 70 mph.

But even in hilly areas, you can get 6+ mpg with idle time 20-30%

 

True, in our case we a loosing any where from1 to 1.5 miles per gallon because of this.. I aslo found out today that our company supposedly stopped the detention pay for waiting more than one hr to unload.. So we got a raise, but with the changes above we are actually going to loose money..
