Sorry, But darl I have pulled 4 trailers (known as a quad) here in Australia, and ran with no Jakes either. It's all about gearing right and taking your time. If only you guys knew what goes on over here, you'd cringe and call foul. 170.5 Metric Tonnes = 376,888 lbs over 22 axles.
plz help!

Good....an experienced driver can handle most hills by gearing down but I absolutely would want a working jake with new drivers.

But the problem is that you should already be able to handle the truck as a newbie, you have the capabilities of learning and an engine brake isn't a requirement of learning how to drive right.
I guess I look at all of these things as helpful, engine brakes and like VORAD (I know ... I know it isn't helpful to many) but the skills you need only come from experience, knowing how to apply proper braking or how to downshift to use the engine (the original engine brake) is essential. I would not want newbies to deal with engine braking (Jakes) unless they know what to do without them. Once you get the basics of controlling the truck, then you can use those other things to become more effective.Pilotboy84 Thanks this. -
That sounds very romantic but I want them to have the jake working.
