Calling drivers

    actually it does tells you if it is moving and how fast etc if the are at the load/unload and if the are in process or waiting
    Some brokers are not an issue but I kind of feel if they want to run the trucks and pester the drivers then maybe they should buy there own and hire some

    GPS tells you where the truck is but doesnt tell you if its sitting on blocks in a shop!
    Actually no it does not tell you why the truck is sitting there without input from the driver! You are correct in thinking the average arrogant dispatcher or safety man would probably believe that it does!

    the gps itself just tells you location and if it is moving and my system does require input from the operator
    but there are many that do not
    I have used system that will tell you everything the truck is doing almost any input into the computers can be transmitted with that data packet
    and the amount of data it keeps track off is unreal how does it tell you it is loaded simple keeps track of the air in the bags engine load etc water and oil temps etc..pto time
    kind of off track from brokers calling drivers and for the most part I am not a big fan of these systems but they do have there benefits
    such as it makes it super easy to keep track of demurage and provides all the info to back up the claim

    Hey were getting somewhere here, so does the computer know why the driver turned the key off too? If a guy didnt want to create a bunch of worthless data he could always install on-board scales like the log trucks have been runnin for years! Computers were a gift from my generation, but one thing that unfortunately wasn’t passed down was common sense.

    One of my Safety "men" told me one day, "We have ran 280 trucks for 1 yr, so in essence I have 280 yrs of experience". Do you go along with that too? They do have a lot of data from the trucks, and with all that wisdom they gained from watching those 280 blips on the monitor last year, they dont even bother asking the driver, they know what happened and don’t really care why. If I hadn’t quit when I did, that arrogant SOB would have ended up in ICU!

    oh like all system there are ways to mess them up and the cannot be relied on 100% and many things I despise about them
    as to the 280yrs of exp that would be a no

    Personally I would like this too, but it would also be nice if the company could call and say it was loaded or unloaded without me needing to hound them.
    If I have the drivers number I will call them once and give them the load details then ask them to send me a text or email when:
    1. They get to the pick up
    2 (only on long trips) Every other morning a start/stop location and ETA to delivery
    3 Arrived at delivery
    and
    4 Oops (If something goes bad)

    other than that I have no desire to call you to find out where you are (nothing personal).

    Pretty basic. And I find it amazing so many drivers take issue with this. they just don't get that trucks are a dime a dozen, you are paying for service, not the truck.
