IF drivers didn't take advantage and slam energy drinks and drive 20 hours we wouldn't have ELOGS
even as big a mess as the goverment is it has never invented a law that there was no reason for

I just PC when ever i can't figure out how to log it
    that must be ok
as long as I am my own safety director

The FMCSA acknowledges other valid off duty uses, especially for owner operators, like beer runs:

Question 3: Does the prohibition against carrying alcoholic beverages in §392.5 apply to a driver who uses a company vehicle, for personal reasons, while off-duty?

Guidance: No. For example, an owner-operator using his/her own vehicle in an off-duty status, or a driver using a company truck or tractor for transportation to a motel, restaurant, or home, would normally be outside the scope of this section.

Could be the lawyers don't know what to ask for...yet...or they are biding their time waiting for the big paydays they'll be getting once e-logs are mandatory. By cashing in too soon, they could risk turning the momentum away from the e-log implementation.

My guess is every case is different. If you just get the random lawyer across the street for me he's not going to know what to ask for from a trucking company. If you get someone that has some experience with transportation they're going to eat you alive.

All depends on the case, and how deep the pockets are of who they are fleecing. Many cases are so self evident, a monkey could prosecute and win.

if we are talking goverment lawyers
like the ones that write the laws
they are all second rate and the laws as written never have all the i's dotted and t's crossed
in New England they thought they had stopped Cod fishing in 1990
stupid lawyers for National Marine Fisheries service never closed all the loopholes until 2014

Got home one day, went to total out the page tired three times, couldn't get it right, finally gave up and brought it in the house... tossed it to the GF and asked her to figure it out. She looked at it once and told me to go get some sleep. I had it right the first time.
