Going to start a new gig pulling tankers. I have to be able to carry at least 8600 gallons, but still don't know how much diesel (7.15) or gasoline (6.3). Anyways, here is my question. The company requires tare weight to be under 16k pounds including driver. Im looking for a flat top with a small sleeper, so my question is, what is the heaviest i could be on the tare weight? How much do trailers usually weight?
Please share your experiences and what you haul, what you weight empty and how much you can load (diesel or gas) to drive legal (80k)? Thanks in advance!

Is a tare of 16k even possible? The lightest tractor I've come across is a t800 daycab, with a c13, super short wheelbase, light running gear, I think that was 15900 or so, no trailer...

8600 gallons of diesel is 61,490, which means the entire rig needs to be under 20,000! Maybe you can do it with a dually?

Well I would ask them to ah.....recommend a truck and once they do please let us know.

I've had tare weights range between 27K-34K. Depends on the trailer and daycab vs sleeper. I usually haul 44K-46K of product. You'd just have to research the weights of the trailers for the company you'd be pulling for & try to get a light tractor.

My tractor(2014 cascades mid roof, full sleeper, but notfullsize, with a pump and air compressor) weights in at 20800 with 2 fuel tanks of fuel. Our tankers weight anywhere from 9000- 18000 pounds depending on size, equipment, insulated/non insulated.
We have a few that I can't haul 45k worth of product in. -
You won't be able to load more then 7500ga of diesel or 9000ga of gas no mater how light your truck is...The terminal computers would set an alarm and you can get in trouble for setting up that high
Bean Jr. Thanks this.
