You will love the Opti system. It's tricky to program the first few times.just follow the directions exactly in the order listed. Sleep well.

As I understand it I can "program" the temps that I want into it? IOW's I could set the high side at 70 and the low side at 40 and anywhere in between the truck will not idle, but if cab temp go above or below those parameters truck will start and cool or heat truck to within preset temp parameters?

Here it is. It'll list "safety and health of drivers and passenger's", it'll list sleeper berth, it'll list "prevent a safety or health emergency" for all the 50 US states, and some counties in some of those states as well.

Heck the state of Maine allows idling for sleeper berth AND waiting to load and unload!!

Kansas,,,you can scroll your set temp up or down to the desired cab temp. Next you can decide the "range of temp " that you wish, for example +- 10 degrees or +-7 deg or +- 3 deg. The tighter your temp range the more often the engine will cycle. Note the unit will not switch from heat to cool like a refer might do in "Continous" mode. YouTube has a great video,,don't watch the one by the idiot Werner driver,,,lol
Let me know how you like it..

Thanks, I normally idle up a bit, esp.....on an emissions truck, usually try to be around 900/1000 can you preset the idle? BTW, this is a Detroit DD13, so I really don't think it will use that much fuel anyway, and yes I would set my parameters pretty far apart, as I don't need it to be a "perfect" temp, I can live with a pretty big span.

    Thanks Again

If I recall there isn't a way to prest idle speed. But the unit does ramp up to the RPMs you mentioned if I recall. Thinks it keeps oil pressure at a good pressure. It has a few oddities, like if the engine doesn't fire right away, it stops and re-try's a couple times, if it still won't go,,it locks out and you have to start over again. My mistake was moving to the rear bunk and not disturbing the gear shift,,bump it and you have to start over. My fault. Btw,,D-13 won't be a problem. The system was designed by Detroit Diesel to work on any truck. I am surprised that ThermoKing or Carrier didn't adapt a refer control for cabs...oh well oh hell,,!

I think they should shot down A/C for the day in the office then the geniuses who implemented the no idle policy would understand that sleeping in 100F cab is a safety issue.

I understand the financial motive + wear amd tear

Sorry post too quick......i understand the financial motive plus wear and tear on engine, but at one point there is a human driving that truck.

If the companies doesn't want to pay for idling they should offer alternative to their drivers such as apu or idleaire.

I own a 2011 Prostar with 496k on it and a Cummins engine, When my main curtains are closed I cant even hear the motor over the A/C nor feel it idling. It just sits there nice a smooth all night if needed. On that note I hate idling also, I find any way I can to get around it as It just simply puts more ware and tare on my engine. The company I am leased on to has the company trucks set up to idle between 34 and 65.

APU is something I'm looking into now as it will save my investment and a inframe.
