I can't answer your questions but I do know your chances of "random" DOT inspections are slim

Years ago I had a good friend who drove a cow truck. He started out with a dually pickup and a triple axle 36' gooseneck and eventually got a 379 with a pot. I rode with him on numerous ocassions. He made good money at it but had crazy hours. The cows can't wait. Once loaded you got to get where they are going ASAP. the cattle auctions usually end late afternoon and you load and drive all night to get where you are going.

Do you know anything about cows? My buddy grew up on a ranch and was a full time cowboy for a few years before he got into driving the trucks. Knowing how to handle them and not get hurt is very important. I have about 20 cows of my own and they are a pain getting in and out of the trailer. I can't imagine having to do that all day every day but then again I am not a pro at it.

Another thing to think about is your trailer gets full of crap quickly and has to be washed out all the time. There are places that will do it for $$$ or you need you own place and as you can imagine it is not a fun job.

Look on craigslist, livestocknetwork dot com and a few other places. If you have a clean record you don't mind tarnishing and you're willing to take anything to get experience someone will take you.

so cottonmouth " if you have a clean record you dont mind tarnishing " what do you mean by that ? I dont care about the crazy hours and i know little bit and how to handle cows but i am no pro at it but i do know the different different between a feeder and the others. i just wonder how hard is it to get with a small good company because my goal is too have my own truck one day . and i will thank yall for your time !!

Well you know what they say about stereotypes. There are always exceptions. From what I have seen though cattle haulers are likely to be overweight, run over hours and drive fast. I don't know how many times I have been driving the speed limit and get passed by a bull wagon like I was standing still.

You can always go back to regular driving I suppose. I'm in now way saying that just cuz you're pulling a wagon you're breaking the law.... however you may find yourself a little heavy sometimes... and animal welfare comes above all else. If that means an extra 5mph or 30 min over on your time, it is what it is.
