    Congratulations, driver!

I still have another 30 years left in me before I turn in my keys, but I'll be in your shoes as I'm also a federal employee.

And yes, my goal is to retire with 50 years behind the wheel. :)

    Mr Ed Thanks this.

Oh, one more thing to consider. Those of you planning on holding out until 65 or 66, listen to this. I have a good friend, whose brother turned 62, after 35 years with Johnson Controls, decided to take an "early " retirement. He got his 1st Social Security check, and died a week later. I don't know about you, but I lived a rough life trucking, and don't have much faith in living to be an old, old man, so the day I turn 62, it's gimme, gimme, gimme.:biggrin_2559:

That is why most of my career will be spent doing local work, so I can have a good personal life. The only reason why I went OTR was to save money, and I saved enough to buy a house. I have no debt, so I'm living a stress free semi-retirement. :)

"semi" retired, Mr Ed and pattyj Thank this.

From one retiree to another. Congrats! Get out and enjoy the fruits of your labor. When I retired in 2011 after 33 years with the same company , my wife an I jumped in the car and let her whims guide us. We left in early March and didn't get back home til the end of May. Had a blast. Again congrats!

Thank you everyone for the well wishes !
Several of my friends were SO close to retirement, only to not see it. I want to enjoy my life. Driving non air ride trucks for most of my career,I'm beat up .I got the drivers back, the drivers neck, The drivers........lol
The retirement specialist told me that there are 300 people over 100 years old collecting a federal pension. I'm going for the record.
I know how I'm going out.............103 years old and shot by a jealous husband.

So I Retired from Trucking and tried that stay at home stuff... Well now im driving tour busses and enjoying the hell out of it.. The KW still sits in my Drive and I take it out on occasions just cause I get the urge. It has a whopping 32,000 miles on it but it does feel good to fire her up and shift thru the 18 speeds... We never retire we just go thru the Motions lol
