I am nearing the end of a CDL training program and I am looking for a job. I live in the northern panhandle of WV about an hour west of Pittsburgh and 2 hours south east of Cleveland if that can help you give me any suggestions. Right now I am looking for $$ and experience... I don' t mind to go out for a week or so at a time driving if need be. I going to have class A cdl w/ tanker but no hazmat. (once I hopefully pass my test) ;)

I was considering both Maverick and Schneider. Schneider does a lot of driving for the Walmart distribution center thats about 20 min from my house so I was thinking about that, but I hear GREAT things about Maverick, the way they treat their employees and their trucks... The only thing that turns me off of Maverick is that they don't match any on the 401K...(I am told Schneider does)

Any suggestions or ideas are helpful!

It all depends on if you want to flatbed, pull a van, or reefer. That's what you've got to decide. If you want to tarp. If you want to drop an hook or if you want to bump a dock.

Being only an hour from Pittsburg look at some of the LTL's in that area. A lot of them will hire you on without experience. The shortage has gotten that bad. Take some extra time and send the LTL carriers a resume. You may be surprised who contacts you. Good luck

I'd go with Big Orange for the sole reason that they still run manuals.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I will research some of the LTL carries in the area and then take a look at my options.

Do your homework and the golden rule is to talk with Drivers of company that interest you. Go to the web and research the companies. Use common sense. Remember starting out is hard but gets easier once you get experience but remember companies will take advantage of you as a new driver. Those are carriers that have a high turn over and can not keep and pay experience drivers. Good Luck!
