Good afternoon, hopefully everybody is doing well. I'll keep this very basic and will hopefully answer a few questions y'all may have. Obviously I'm still here (and ain't planning on leaving!), keeping busy as can be like always.

Concerning the company and changes that have happened lately, here are the basics:

    • Pay scale is now as follows. The hourly rate posted is what you make for the first two hours of on time pick up and/or delivery, as well as what everything else is based off of concerning detention pay, holiday pay, vacation pay, breakdown pay, training pay, etc.

    Start: 25% - $20
    @ 1 Year: 26% - $21
    @ 3 Years: 27% - $22
    @ 6 Years: 28% - $23
    @ 10+ Years: 29% - $24

    • $500 max Monthly Bonus. Based off a point system that takes into consideration a combination of meeting mileage threshold, meeting idle percentage threshold, fuel economy, proper logging, safety compliance, completing monthly safety training via Pro-tread, work availability.

E.G.: in order for a road driver to maximize his/her monthly bonus they must drive 10k miles, maintain 6.5 MPG overall, work an equal number of days to how many Monday through Friday "business days" fall in the particular month (March would be 22 days, April = 22, May = 21, so on and so forth). I will get confirmation on any specifics if anyone is interested so that there is absolutely zero confusion.

    • Orientation is now held at the Joliet, IL terminal, versus Alsip, IL such as when I started almost 3 years ago.

    • Concerning benefits and insurance, I will post pictures be low of everything we have available. It will probably be easier that way inside of trying to type everything out. Benefits take effect 30 days following the first of the month of when you start, and are deducted weekly.

E.G.: If a driver hypothetically started today until the end of the month, their benefits would start May 1st.

    • Equipment:
We still have lots of the Peterbilt 386 trucks in the fleet, equipped with Espar bunk heaters that I described many, many posts ago in the beginning. We also are in the process of upgrading the fleet to Peterbilt 589's which are set up identically to the 386 was with a few additions that I am listing now.

    *10-speed transmission versus 13-speed.
*Gel battery pack A/C system to go along with the bunk heater.
*AM/FM/WX/CD/USB Stereo with Bluetooth microphone for hands free talking.
    *Small fridge (pic coming).

I feel the same way cyanide.
"Ain't leaving here anytime soon", I'm local out of Alsip. Us local guys are not seeing the new trucks as fast as you OTR/Regional guys are, but I don't mind I only have to drive it.

I would encourage anyone thinking of an OTR career with Heniff Transportation to reconsider. I read all of the reviews I could find and made contact with Recruiting because the reviews were so good.

Recruiting went up and beyond by providing me the settlement sheets of other drivers on the same account. Of course their personal information was redacted. This was done to reassure me I could make the money I said I needed and be home when expected. My particulars were I need to make $1,300 gross, per week, and home most weekends. I was told by Jack Z.and his boss this would be very easy to accommodate.

At this point I submit my resignation to my current employer, where I was making $900-$1,000 per week gross but worked under "First In, First Out". I had NO regular sleep schedule and I felt VERY unsafe driving. One day dispatced at 6am the following day at 1am. That employer would not try to work with its employees and I felt is was necessary to leave.

I report to work with Heniff Transportation and all seems to be very well. I am convinced I made the right decision. Orientation is a week and then OTR I go.

I am assigned to the Berea, KY terminal on the Sherwin Williams account and Dan L. is the terminal manager. Right away things do not appear to be as good as initially presented. Dan is trying to manage a terminal nearly 400 miles away and his "organizational skills" are questionable at best. A few weeks go by and I have not broken a $1,000 gross which is over a 30% difference from what was promised. That is significant to anyone, including my family and I. At this point I tell Dan this is a problem. He provides the normal, "Freight is slow" routine but he has some things he is working on to correct the deficiency. It always seems like "Freight is slow" when a driver is not making what they should or what they were promised. A couple more weeks go by, no resolution is spoken of unless I bring it up. At this point I asked Jack to get involved and now he says he is taking ownership of this and WE WILL resolve this in a few days. Another week goes by, no resolution in sight. I have informed them we are getting behind in our bills. If this is not corrected soon, I will have to seek employment elsewhere. I fill out applications while waiting for the "resolution". Jack is informed and is supports this.

An unexpected problem arises and I requested a few unpaid days off. Dan says that's perfect timing because "Freight is slow", again. He actually sent 1/2 of his fleet home on Thursday, not to return until Monday. Now while I am off, Dan made the decision to terminate me and confiscate the truck, with all of my belongings. He did not notify me of this until a week later while holding my personal items. He claims he is not sure where to send them. According to him, the reason for termination was "He didn't feel it was going to work out".

To conclude, I usually do not write on message boards or post negative reviews. My intentions here are strictly focused on the driver. My story is just that, mine. I wish, if others had similar experiences with Heniff Transportation like mine, they were posted so I could have made a more informed decision. I have read how happy other employees are working there and that was exactly what I was looking for, a HOME not a job and that's what I told Bob Heniff Sr. Sadly I feel I was duped and Heniff Transportation grossly misrepresented their intentions.

By far and large I feel this is one of the worst decisions I have ever made and definitely the worst career move.

To anyone reading this, use my story for reference only. I will gladly answer any questions regarding this.

    Thank you,
    Ernest Adkins

Wow. I almost took a job at Heniff running out of the Berea terminal on that Sherwin Williams account. I guess things work out for a reason. Got hired on with a small family owned company. So far they have treated me good.

For those wondering, the electrical job did not work out for me...was not a good fit.
