Wildfires in Sask, BC

Haven't run that way in sometime but I think it would have an impact.

 

I would think they would send them to other places if possible. You have money tied up in equipment so you have to generate income to pay for it.

 

OTR drivers might find work elsewhere but when the forests dry up and fire season comes along, it's too risky to log so it's not uncommon for logging trucks and drivers to sit until the rain comes.

 

I wouldn't say it's normal to be off the entire summer but I think a lot of them expect there is a possibility of shutting down for a week or 2 if the forest fire danger is too high.

 

My Dad drove logging truck for 35 years on the coast (Squamish) and was typically shut down for a month in summer (give or take) for fire season and a month or so in winter when snowed out.

 

In 2003 in BC there was very little logging allowed due to fires. Many logging company choppers were use to list buckets of water and douse fires.

 

I was right in the middle of all that. The Barriere-McLure fire got put out before it reached me. Logging was shut down all summer in that area. Next year though it was balls to the wall to harvest as much burnt wood before it was unsalvagable.
