    ☝ HOLD UP
Dude! I'm 26 man. Let me live! Jesus Christ. I want to be free man!

    My record is ####### squeaky.
I get paid by the load.
    I choose when I Drive
    Where I Drive
    If I Drive
    How I Drive.
    I don't have idol limiters.
    I don't have electronic logs.
I don't have GPS on my truck.
    I don't have speed limiters.

I don't have cameras watching me inside my ####ing truck.

I don't have some stupid ### system blowing a mother ####ing horn in my ear every time I get close to the lines.

I don't have some crazy computerized system applying the brakes FOR ME every time someone cuts me off.

I don't have sensors on my suspension judging me every time I take a hard corner resulting in more unpaid training.

I'm as safe and compliant as I can be and I have never even lost a cb antenna let alone crash the truck. I don't even bump the dock hard.

I take this industry seriously and respect most of the regulations not all.

    IM FREE!

    AMERICA !!!! #### YEA!

I learned from my grandfather and he from his father.

After leaving school I worked for Werner for 3 months and bailed. Every time I went to the terminal I felt like I was at Auschwitz. I never felt in control. My trainer had a Nazi mustache and when he talked it sounded like "gliven glueven sphleagean shplagen".

Martin Luther King Jr didn't have a dream of me being subjected to the tyrannical politics of these oppressive trucking corporations.

In some ways I'm the same as an owner op without the financial responsibility.

The company is decent and if they fail to be I can leave whenever I want and they will understand not defecate on my DAQ.

It's a contract not an application.

If you are with a 1099 company and they treat you just like Werner or Swift that is illegal.

You file through IRS publication 1779 and describe how you are treated at the company and they will revert your 1099 into a w2 and charge the company penalties as well as force them to pay all of your taxes.

Surrendering freedom for security? Sounds familiar Ben.

    Do what's right for you.

morongobill and Matt K Thank this.

Funny you should ask, I actually soak the donuts in coffee and eat it with a knife and fork.

I am on 1099 and I save all my non-perdeum receipts, such as office supplies, CAT scales, cloths, and anything else related to road expenses. It all adds up! I also set aside money each week for taxes. You can open a CD or find a way to invest it through the year. In my opinion, its better than someone else making interest on MY money. I also use Turbo Tax and they walk you through so you pay as little as possible. I made 45k last year and paid around 6k in taxes. It was my first year driving so I had a lot of deductions. Also, don't forget medical expenses including DOT physical, Dr. app. and medications.

If its a very small company (under 4 employees) they can be workers comp exempt. So all the W2 will accomplish is releive you from the worry of paying your own taxes. For some that might be a big deal since it is very difficult to be disciplined enough to keep up with quarterly taxes.

I dont understand how the math works out for someone to make more money as a W2 driver then a 1099 driver. If the company pays your taxes or you pay your own as a 1099 driver you'll end up with the same net income. I think for the very disciplined driver the 1099 would be most advantagous because you can invest that percentage of wages until taxes are due and actually accrue a capital gain. This is what the govt is doing with your tax withholdings until your refund is due (If you are overpaying that is...which is what most people do)

If the money still looks good to him after paying employer liabilities and estimated quarterly income tax then go for it!

So many people have no clue the responsibilities that go with being a 1099 employee, many of them in this thread............ It may not bite them right away, but it will catch up to them at some point.

Not to mention if a company tells you where to go, when to be there, etc...there is no way that you qualify to be a 1099 contractor.

I can't wait to see what happens to these guys when they get hit with the penalties for not paying the proper and required amounts to FICA & medicare.

Of course these supertruckers won't admit it here, but when it happens they will be buried in civil and possibly criminal penalties.

Paying 25 bucks for a business license doesn’t mean there wont be people telling you where and when they need your services! Even owner operators have to get the load there when the customer needs the product.
I have drove as a contractor for Boise Cascade Corp and Resers fine foods let alone all the logging crews, and those were good paying jobs with respectable people who told me exactly when how, and where!
