Snowwy,
We have been over this quite a few times. Just because AZ deems that road you wanted on a NON-Staa route and you had your trailer set to 53' and 102" long which is STAA and the RM did not route you on this, this is not a routing issue.
Just because other trucks take this route does not mean it is legal for STAA. AZ which is the state that owns and maintains that road set the criteria for their own road, not RM.
I really wish you would get over this issue from 4 years ago.
Set your truck settings to 48' and 96" which is Non-STAA and it will route you on it.
If you are STAA and DOT does pull you over for being on a Non-STAA route you can get a ticket for OD. If you are making a local delivery and not a thru route, then they understand that since a lot companies were build on older roads and those roads were build for a 48' and 96" wide trailers.
How you set your truck parameters is how the code/maps will route you.
Please stop making statements which are false. This was an issue from 4 years ago and at that time AZ set the criteria for that US route as Non-STAA and you had your truck settings for STAA. RM did do the correct routing and kept you on a truck legal route. -
First I have heard you mention this. What RM products did you own and what issues did you have?

i love my RM 720
I know there are fancier newer models
the combination electronics like tablet /GPS are problematic
one problem the whole unit is down until repaired
after 100's of electronics on the commercial fishing boats in 40 years that was always true
I actually like that my GPS isn't always as smart as I am
that was the same ALWAYS on the boats too
my boat GPS could take me 200 miles offshore find the rockpile in 1000 feet of water where a school of fish was hiding
but my common sense had to take all the info i had on sea and wind conditions tidal pulls to put the boat in position to catch the fish a quarter of a mile below me
I expect no more of a truck GPS
if it gets me to Ontario Ca I will take it from there
even as the wildfire spread across 15 in Hesperia I didn't expect my 720 to alert me -
None anymore, with the exception of the Motor Carriers Atlas. I had 2 720s, and they both stopped working, froze up and wouldn't respond, etc. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. There will not be a third time. After the second 720 quit, I bought a Garmin 560 dezl. That was in May 5, 2012. According to the unit, I've put 443,410 miles on it. And to this day, July 19, 2015, I've not had one issue with it. The other 2? I had one for a month and the other less than 48 hours.

I have been on this site since 2007, responding to RM issues since 2008. I wish you could have said something.

I try not to ruffle your feathers too much Mark, I know that you're a good dude and providing really good info. But I had to call it the way I saw it. In my honest opinion, Rand McNally has a great idea for the best truck navigation system out there. The execution and the hardware are severely lacking. I'll always keep an up to date Rand McNally Motor Carriers Atlas, but for a navigation system, I'll stick to the competition. Keep up the good work though.

Retired Marine here, feathers rarely get ruffled.
I do agree you will always get a few bad units in production like any company. I am sorry you happened to get two of them. Without knowing the details it will be hard to say what the issues were.
I do think the hardware/software are solid though. Yes a few issues with the software sometimes, but that always gets resolved.
Hardware - it has gotten a lot better and more stable also.
I test units in my office constantly putting them through paces most drivers will not. If an user suspects an issue I will test till I can reproduce or look at their unit personally.
Please do understand that sometimes that units that are returned to truck stops somehow make there way back to selling stock without ever going back to RM.
A lot has changed in the past three years. Do not give up hope on RM TND's yet.
Markjoseph1135 Thanks this. -
is it plugged in to a 2 amp plug?
