I don't know if that's ABF's Policy or just that terminal, but that's what the terminal manager told me when I called to follow-up on my app.
As far as FedEx Freight...You can get hired on directlly as a driver if you already have your CDL, required experience, etc.To get on as a tractir driver at FedEx Express (airport runs, etc)...you pretty much have to be an internal applicant.

What about their Custom Critical side, do you know? and ground I heard is mainly contractors so I'm not really interested in them. Seems that's how it is with UPS as well if you want to work for Parcel and not freight, which is where I really wanted to go.
-
Custom Critical I understand is O/O. And yes, with ground you work for someone who has the contract. Again, you must have your CDL, experience, clean MVR, etc. UPS has some options too...they told me you almost always needn a CDL to work the dock too.
Are you a driver or are you looking for training?Last edited: Jul 22, 2015

I'm a tractor trailer driver. I work at Sodrel right now which is a USPS mail contractor.
UPS is my #1 choice, feeder driver is what I'd like, but from what I've heard it's #### hard to get on there. Line haul is what I'd like to do. -
Yeah, ground would work pretty much like what your doing now. Seeing as your already a driver, apply to FedEx Freight...many terminals are union. Try UPS Freight too!
UPS Feeder: U would pretty much have to start over to become a feeder driver @ UPS...first you'd have to be a package handler for x number of years...then a package car driver for x number if years.. and then bid for feeder...there's guys with 20+ years who don't have enough senority to get it (I know a few). -
Wow! That's nuts. There's one guy on here that said he got hired off the street as a feeder driver and that that was the first they've done that in year. Not sure of his area though.
I'll have to look into freight. I know they have a terminal about 1/2 mile from my first pick up as I see truck after truck coming down the road at 3am. -
Yeah, if that guy got a permanent UPS Feeder job...he def. knows someone...most likelly in the Teamster's. I'd shoot for FedEx Freight or UPS Freight...for FedEx Freight...go to FedEx Careers online and apply. Good Luck!!

Alright, thanks a lot man. I appreciate it.

I'd be happy to know if you get in at one of them...heck...try YRC Freight, Holland, ABF too...all union...if that's what your looking for.
-
I was looking at ABF. They have 1 opening for line haul in my area. I have a friend who just left sodrel to go to YRC a few weeks ago and he's loving it over there so far. Just checking out all my options. Where ever I go, I want it to be somewhere I can hopefully spend the next 40 years at until I retire.
