I think that a lot of the younger generation drivers don't have the patience that many older more experienced drivers have. Being impatient and even a bit aggressive is the root cause of the error I brought up in the OP.
I know that I will use it as a learning experience moving forward.
Was I in error?

All kidding aside folks, your input about safe following distance, when to brake, the importance of maintaining travel lane etc. is appreciated and I can honestly say accurate as well. Lessons learned.
