I have had my CDL since 2010 but after I finished school I wasn't able to go OTR at the time, so i dont have any experience. What are some company's would I be able to start out with? I'm not for sure if I would be able to just take a refresher course, or if I would have to go through school again. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Where do you live? Do you have any preferences in freight (Flatbed, van, reefer, etc)?

Have you ever thought about becoming a chef? Couple years training and they make pretty decent money, get to stay indoors too.

Flatbed or Refer would be my interest but would like anything to get experience. I live in Southern Illinois.

Earl Henderson Trucking will probably hire you if you agree to attend their training program. It's possible they will fast track you through if you do well. Good company based in Caseyville, IL.

The best chef job, in my opinion, is with Military Sealift Command. They're hiring too. Good government benefits with 20 year retirement. This is a civilian merchant seaman job.

    icsheeple Thanks this.

Culinary team is the most important on the ship from a morale standpoint. Crappy food makes for crappy sailors.

Look for a local mom and pop outfit, that will keep you local.
