How to disable the stupid on guard system

It's your truck? I bet a good set of tools, including a pair of wirecutters and a BFH would be REAL handy for you.

 

Check your insurance co., may have a discount or offer one with on guard.

 

It certainly would! I really don't want to kill the system for good. After all it costs almost $5,000. Although the system would come in handy and welcomed in the fog, hard rain, and even at night. But... hard rain, and sometimes fog give the system false readings and the darn thing disables itself. Great! I would like to have control of the settings and determine what setting are right for my driving habits, right.

 

Good pair of eyes, steady hands, and speed, lane, and following distance control have always worked for me. I don't trust any computer with my brakes.

 

IF it's your truck you can have some of the setting changed at the dealer

 

They tell me they can't change the settings. It would cause problems in the ECM. I told them there has to be a way to set the sensitivity of the unit. It can't be that set in stone. No one would buy this system if there were no settings that could be enhanced. I guess I'm on my own to determine my best course of action. I haven't run this truck in the winter months yet. Wow that is going to be a heck of an experience, given all the problems the other drivers have had.

 

Well, I cant at least tell you this much, they are flat out lieing to you. it can be disabled and adjusted, the problem is most if not all dealers will NOT touch it simply for liablity sakes. They disable it then you go out and kill 5 people the blood sucking lawyer will figure out how to come back at them.

To anyone buying a new truck I would recommend this option is opted out of, if you end up not liking the system its almost impossible to get rid of (internally) as its considered a safety system. You would need ur own programs and inlines to do it your self.

 

Well Frajo, you are unfortunately right! If My wife & I have learned anything about the Freightliner service shops, for that matter any of the big dealers. Is they are out to make as much money as they can off us O/O. It it just the nature of the beast I guess. I just would like to find one honest mechanic that doesn't let the greed outweigh the customer service. Also When we bought this truck, If they would have at least given us the option to have it taken out if we didn't like the system. Or even for that matter, given us full disclosure of the darn system. Maybe we could have researched it before buying our first brand new truck, know what I mean.

We didn't get any paperwork on this unit, except for the instructions of course. That being said, I wonder if we had been given full disclosure we might have walked! There should always be a choice whether you want to keep such an intrusive device. Especialy when it is not standard. There is always another dealership next door that would have traded our old truck in a hot second right!

 

I have always said Brsims, 3 things make me a good truck driver. Pay attention, slow down, and it's nothing personal. Those things will keep you safe and hopefully avoid the worst of the 4wheelers, and as always the worst of the inconsiderate truckers out there.
