Hello, I've been thinking about becoming a truck driver for awhile. A little about me, I've been delivering pizzas for over 6 years, 25 years old, currently trying to plan my next step in live, and have no family or location obligations. I think trucking might be a good fit for me, but I'm trying to figure out how to get started?

I live in the Seattle area. I also have some money saved up so I believe that if I needed to, I could pay for school out of pocket. I don't mind traveling for school if I need to?

Any advice or direction would help

    Thanks

Bates Technical college in Tacoma is great school. Not that far from you. and since you live in seattle there are great opportunities to you.

If money is tight, then go to a trucking company CDL school.

    Earl Henderson Trucking
    Midwest-coast Transport
    Knight Transportation (dry van division)
    Con-way
    Southern Refrigerated Transport
    Wil-Trans

If you can do the private CDL school out of your own pocket, then check with Leavitt's Freight Service and ask which school they recommend. This is a decent company that hires new CDL grads.

I would never ever have a company pay for my training. Why? Because it is a form of being a slave.
I never went to Bates. I do know this you learn more then just how to pull a trailer and back it. they do just about everything from combo to dump trucks. and have a darn good Reputation that Local companies look for. Plus you can get a pel grant for school.

I paid for my own school and license. Then looked at what companies had the quickest tuition reimbursement program.

For starters the state has a list of approved schools and you must attend one of them.

check out community colleges in your area, they're usually much cheaper & you get college credit plus student loans are available.
