Had same issue cpl yrs back. Have turbo checked. Mine had chipped fins on both turbine and compressor wheels. What happens is there isn't enough air into the motor which makes EGT go high. The egr temp sensor reads this when it opens and let's the hot gas through

Thanks for your feedback, I was thinking that the EGR cooler it might be clogged up, I'm not loosing any coolant though, but this with the turbo makes a lot of sense, will definitely check it

If the cooler were clogged there would be no egr flow. The temp sensor is on the front and measures temp as the exhaust passes through.

I have verry much same problem right now sitting in Princeton Wv waiting the Volvo dealer to open in the morning.
Had this problem few weeks back and replaced Egr temp sensor then everything was back to normal. But after 150m rolling empty that code for out of calibration was back. Yet still she was runing fine until yesterday now I can clump uphills doing 30-45mph with empty wagon and this #### code registered to day more than 70 times

Just got my truck out of the shop yesterday. They replaced the EGR temp sensor and cleaned all the sooth out of the EGR pipes. Drove 300 mi, so far its fine. Have the turbo checked as the driver up in this conversation recomends
