When to Move Over vs. CB Abuse

    Maybe you're considering too much by having the CB turned on at all. Personally I don't seem to have missed anything without listening to that, badgering as you put it.

    One place I worked constantly tried to play phone tag with me, and I don't play that while driving, so it came to the point of them having someone walk a phone out to me while I was fixing a truck to ask what the delay was, and after arguing with them for ten minutes as to why I did a pre trip in the first place I'm like you're the delay at this point, what's your problem? So they tell me not to come back (after I had delivered, and the customer didn't even need the load on the dock, and the trailer I was supposed to pick up there didn't pass my pretrip either, and they kept trying to play phone tag as if its only purpose was for them to not answer when I returned their calls, as always), then the day after that they asked me to forget it happened and keep on trucking. So I did, somewhere else, and haven't needed a phone much since.

    Anyway I think CB etiquette is an oxymoron, and its reputation preceded me, so I didn't even go there, and don't look at anyone passing, because I can tell how obnoxious anyone is by how they drive, and what are they going to do "steal" my lane? Well it isn't my lane, isn't my truck, isn't even my job, and I'm not compromising my cdl with everyone else's high tech bs (not even tryin' duh hear dat)!

    I admit to making myself look bad in the process, but that wasn't my idea either, it's like play it where it lies (and all those lies have put me in the sand pit).

    This is what CB or cell phone chatter reminds me of, for all of its words of encouragement. Putting is like backing a truck, I guess, and didn't have to play golf to know better either (I'm not getting all dressed up for that).

    So you were admittedly following too close and had to take evasive action?

    How is this the guys fault in front of the cops problem for ticketing you? I'd say the price of the ticket is far better than killing someone by your image driving at that moment.

    If you had a collision you would have been found "at fault" for following at an unsafe distance.

    This isn't a flame, I'm just saying let's put the blame where it belongs.

    Let me preface this question by saying I'm not trying to pick a fight. LOL. I am just trying to follow along (and slowly).

    But the OP said 3rd lane from the left, on a road with 4 lanes, and I don't always have the best brain power going, however I think that's not the same thing as 3rd lane from the right. Looks like he woulda been in the 2nd lane from the right. Errr, not that it matters.

    Cuz this is about CBs and wanking off and watching the Big Lebowski and how trucking isn't fair when you do what seems like the best option in a confusing situation, which is what everybody hopes a trucker can do. Then they take you to court for it.

    That's my fault then, 3rd lane, counted from right to left (which is how a cop will count it), assumed he was in no truck lane. Point still stands, this horse is dead. We will never find a happy medium on this topic.

    As I stated in a earlier post. I always got into the middle lane when I was in a area with really short merging lanes at the on ramps. Other truckers could ##### & moan all the liked, as it didn't matter to me. I always got back over as soon as I cleared them. I realized it could be frustrating for some.

    I never understood JB's 58 mile per hour setting on the trucks. Didn't have the power to merge, or stay out of other peoples way in congested areas, and especially hilly areas with congestion. I used to cuss up a storm some times at those trucks.

    I'll move one lane to the left in city driving especially if the speed limit is 65 and I will run 65. If someone wants to speed then they can pass me on the left. If they have no problem speeding then they shouldn't have a problem going to far to the left. If I am in that lane and I am below the speed limit I will watch for trucks gaining on me and move to the right for them.

    It used to be common practice and commonly recommended that, on a road with 3 or more lanes, you use the 2nd one from the right. That was to leave the far right free for exiting and merging traffic. Seems since the rise in e-logs and the 14 hr clock going tick tick tick is when people changed their mind and started making a stink over it. I just may not have noticed, but I don't remember hearing the "slow traffic stay right" mantra in times past.

    I agree entirely, Ridgeline. If I'm doing within a couple mph +- of the speed limit, I just drive where I think traffic conditions warrant. If someone behind me don't like it, sorry. Pass and go on your way.

    I've seen the Texas DPS pull over a 4 wheeler for failing to heed to "Left Lane for Passing Only".
