    I am not a texter , I still have a Flip phone.

I look over into cars at every stoplight and 90 percent of them are texting. Light turns green i hang by their side and they have to finish that text as they are drivng. Most are young girls. Stupid.

That was overly dramatic and unreal, for a crash that magnitude they would've had to be driving at highway speeds in a residential area. But it does get the message across.

I think this is the best anti-texting video I have seen.
It's made its rounds on facebook quite a few times.

Be warned, it is *very* graphic.
Makes that first video look like a children's cartoon.

two cars on a side street going 35mph equals a 70 mph crash. Looked legit. I've seen cars get overturned at intersections where the speed limit was 40mph. I don't know how fast they were actually going but I was surprised to see such destruction.

Yup. I've seen this happen matter of fact.

Car leaving a gas station (not fast) T boned the van in front of me and that van went nearly onto it's roof. We were going about 30-35 mph. I've also seen fatal wrecks on low speed side streets. Doesn't happen often but it does happen.

    P.S. Wear the dam belt.

Phone carriers and phone makers can easily stop texting and driving. All modern phones have GPS and motion sensors. A simple program to deny sending or receiving text/email and HTTP when doing anything over 10 - 20mph is very easily doable.

How many more lives must we lose before something is done?

People are obviously not smart enough to control their own actions. They know better,.. yet I see kids, adults, seniors,.. all texting or doing something with their phone while driving. I want to guesstimate at least 3 out of every 10 cars/truckers that pass me all have that phone in front of their face while driving.

Since they will not stop it,.. we can disable the function for their own good and the safety of us all.

You do make a very salient point, and I agree with you.....but they would have to figure out a way for the passenger/s to use theirs. My 16 year old daughter would kill me if she couldn't text every time she went somewhere with me. She also sends texts and emails for me while I'm driving

No Joe, it isn't like you going out and buying a beer which if you apply the text messaging to it would mean that the beer company comes to your home, sets up a brewing system and makes you a beer to drink.

There is a difference because the carrier like AT&T has control, the first thing that you and others need to understand is unlike beer and ammo, or what ever, AT&T is the way these text messages travel, there are no alternatives with phones. They, the carriers have absolute control over the services they provide, there is no FCC/Federal mandate to provide them nor there is no moral directive for them to show initiative to cut the service off.
