Hwy 12 in northern Idaho (Lolo pass)enroute to Missoula, Aug. 07. Think this is Lochsa River. Kind of an area one wants to sell the truck to the first guy that comes by & sit on the riverbank the rest of his life.
Dharok, DDlighttruck, Short Fuse EOD and 4 others Thank this. -
Got to run hwy 12 before it was closed to big trucks.. Nice drive ! Not sure they needed to restrict it ? .. Had a deer jump a guard rail on corner one on night, hit the brakes, with the trailer in one and the tractor in the other I managed to slow down enough for the deer ziz zag back and forth til it made up its mind on which direction to take, a migrating herd turned up . for the next miles it was slow going.. Nez Pierce country..
Very nice in there.. Memories -
when did they close it to big trucks?

Rode the Harley into Death Valley through Trona a few years back, got about half lost on the wrong road going into the park lol. I was down into 1st and 2nd gear a lot avoiding potholes and sand traps on a road that was paved at one time but in serious disrepair (Wild Rose Rd.),finally made it to a more traveled road that came out in Stovepipe Wells. I almost turned back a couple times but we were way back in there already so I figured I'd go until we found a better road or had to turn back.
I should have turned left here!

I ran across 12 this past winter. Pretty sure it was only restricted for 53' . But if I remember you could get a permit? Didn't pay attention as I pull a 48'. I don't think their is a strait stretch longer than a mile until you hit Montana. Absolutely nothing but a river and a few trail heads. Here was my camping spot for the night.
On the west bound side of Homestake Pass there is an old abandoned railroad track. Just up the hill from the rest area. You can walk for miles and stretch the legs.DDlighttruck, dca, CaliforniaJellyroll and 3 others Thank this.
