Georgia overdrive

Wow thats way up North, always wanted to run up farther North! I have given up on job jumpin, my handlers treat me good where I am now. There was mention of a possible Alaska run so still some hope for me, I have a couple buddys who ran Alcan, hope I get to see it too!
Didnt realize till I had some trouble with my right ear just how deaf I am in my left, Doctor claims its more just from scar tissue caused by the cold air from having the window open listening to them stacks!

 

Just listened to that last night coming down 95. Haha

 

LMAO---I guess it depends on where you were raised---we always refered to it as Mexican overdrive--and Georgia overdrive(not to be too technical)was when you took an old ten speed and turned around 9-10 gear--so 10th was actually against the dash--in the older style road rangers--the way the gears laid in--you could actually put a bigger gear in the 9th position in the case thus allowing a lil more(or a lot depending--lol)top end in the big hole--as for folks rollin downhill outta gear---you havent lived(and it really doesnt happen anymore)until you ran across the Pa Pike back in the day--w/Big R racin Cornflakes at 3am--eaastbound outta the Somerset tunnel down the hill towards Bedford(before they straitened-most of it)w/both of em bearin down on ya at 80plus---lol--and then whoever rolled out further before they could drop her back in gear got the braggin rights--but I digress----

 

I'm surprised they are allowed to build that sort of function into a transmission, considering most (if not all) states have laws on the books prohibiting "coasting" down hills with the transmission in neutral or the clutch disengaged. In other words, any time the transmission decides to go into Eco-Roll mode, you can be cited for illegal coasting.

 

While I agree about the safety aspect, I haven't seen actual law prohibiting the act. I am unaware of any such law prohibiting the above in PA.

It is generally just considered an unsafe practice.

Then again, a AMT isn't exactly the same as a straight manual because the computer has built in safeties.

You must also consider the commercial vehicles with true automatics (Allison) that don't always have direct engine to wheel engagement anyway.

LMAO. Back when I worked the extra board for Yellow out of Charlotte I used to run Nashville a good bit. Followed a driver back several times, I still remember his handle was Dolittle, and every time we would come down Saluda towards Spartinburg he would throw it in Ga. Overdrive. We were really in no hurry, he just liked the excitement.

 

and that driver probably was at all the truck stops biotching on how he got a ticket, he didn't deserve...........~~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!~~~~~~~~~

 

If you are grossing 79,000 going down a mountain and decide to hit Georgia overdrive..might as well get out that old ac/dc cd and play "Highway to hell" lol
