It was the only way you could make up any time in the R model Mack years ago. 35 mph up the hill, 75 down. Personally, grossing 73,280 ( cough) and going down hill at 75 mph on tube type, bias ply tires (that weren't quite running true), was more excitement than I could handle. :biggrin_25513:

Well, as long as the Bull Dawg was facing forward you were probably ok. If he turned around and looked at you like you were crazy and had yellow running down his leg, you were probably pushing it.

How do you know you have a fast Mack? The hood bulldog is wearing WW2 fighter pilot gear.

Rick Brown and Vilhiem Thank this.

My Mack can hold its own...tachs out @ 85 mph, and with 485 hp/1660 ft lbs under the hood and 4.17 gears on the rears, it ain't no slouch getting there. I'd like to get my hands on the XT data file for an extra 100 ft lbs of torque...but you can't get that through Mack anymore. You have to know somebody with that file in their truck, and have a Mack dealer willing to burn you a copy...but I digress. Just 'cuz it's a Mack doesn't mean it's slow. Sure, you can spec a Mack with no balls...MP7 as weak as 325hp/1200ft lbs...or you can spec it with more power and more torque under the hood than any other truck in it's class. MP10 rated up to 605hp/2060ft lbs, MP8 at 505hp/1860ft lbs.

Spec'd right, there isn't a stock truck that will outpull a Mack. Spec'd by a corporate pencil pusher who's never seen the inside of a truck, ANY truck will be under-powered and slow.

    It's all in the specs...
