Don't give up on yourself too soon! You can do this! If you signed a tuition assistance contract with Schneider, read it carefully AGAIN before you quit. They have a copy of it on their website. If I read it right, it says you have basically completed the school, and will be liable for the cost of the school (over $6k) whether you stay with Schneider or not. The only way NOW to get out of that debt is to drive for them, and cover the cost through tuition reimbursement. I think the whole process takes about 3 years!!! :biggrin_2555: Stay as long as you can and lower that debt!

Yeah, it's 18months. But I have a 30,000 debt in college too, so debt is my middle name. I'm still going to try but I am knowing my limits. I will be in much bigger trouble if I hit somebody because I am distracted by the gears that I grind so much. ALL TESTS make me very nervous and I have had many tests in the last 5 weeks. Thanks for the words of encouragement! But I am worried about hurting somebody. I haven't driven by myself yet, so I don't know the nervous factor that I can blame on failing my test. I do believe that was a lot of it, they stress me on going too slow and too fast on ramps. So my yield that I missed was because I was afraid to go too slow. Now I will get points off or fail for going too slow rather than too fast. Or I will go fast but break way short of the yield that I know is there. When the tester yelled "STOP NOW!" I was about 150 feet away from the sign and didn't even see it yet. I should have known it was there, since for CDL prep they showed us the route and I drove it once. I am going today to drive it again and make sure I know it. I know in the real world I won't have such an advantage, but I won't be nervous either. On my trip plans I will have every turn from beginning to end. Construction can mess that up I know, but I can only hope when I make those plans 1,000 miles away, that no problems come up.

There is really only 2 things keeping me going, all that money (riches), and seeing the country. I say riches but that is only compared to what I would make after college. That max would have been around $35-40,000 per year. I wasn't in college for the money I would make. I wanted a job I could like and still make money.

I do forget sometimes that I have only driven 2630 miles or so and nearly all of that was in 10th gear on the hwy. That's the good life.

No worries, i failed my first time too, just keep retaking it to you pass. There will always be obstacles in life, no matter if your in school or not, just keep coming back and you'll win eventually. Let it roll right off your back man.

Thanks! That's good to know! Their website isn't clear on tuition reimbursement vs. tuition assistance, which apparently run concurrently. That puts them back on my short list.

I need to talk to one of their recruiters today for some information more up to date than what's still on their web pages. I've already talked to 3 other companies and disqualifed one for personal reasons. School contracts are either available online, or the recruiters (so far) will gladly e-mail one to you.

KD5GIV: Ya gotta hang in there, man! Keep trying until they send you home, if that's what it takes! You've got nothing to lose by trying. You haven't killed or hurt anybody yet, or you wouldn't be there! EVERYBODY suffers from a case of the nerves when taking important tests. All you need is confidence, and that comes with experience! "Experience" is what you get from making mistakes (so you'll not make them again). We all make mistakes, and always will. Experience keeps them small and infrequent. YOU ONLY NEED 80% OVERALL TO PASS! They don't expect perfection, and you shouldn't either. That comes only with practice and experience that you get AFTER training (and even the old timers aren't 100% perfect.... ever!).

I know I kinda picked on your first post by highlighting the negatives, but you are going to have to improve your attitude if you are going to do well at anything......... I'm sure you know that!

Skills tests are games of confidence........ you have to KNOW you are going to ace it!!!
It really doesn't matter if you don't because you will learn from that experience and master it the next time!!!

(Notice I said "experience" and NOT "failure".......)

I "failed" my test 2 weeks ago as well.......... but I take it again next week and I will be fine.......... in reality I may mess up again......... but hey, third times a charm, right? :biggrin_25525:

The next time you see a motivational speaker in your area......... GO TO THE SEMINAR!!!
Everyone needs to learn how to see the glass as "half-full" or their entire life is going to be "half-empty."
Sounds like a s*cky way to live to me.......

Below is MY post from the day after I took my test....... other posters were also nice enough to share their "worse" stories to make me feel better.. :yes2557:
