I have medical through my wife's job, much cheaper with better coverage. I can't remember all the details( getting old) but I don't think it was great coverage. I think you would be better off finding coverage on your own.

Do you know anything about the memphis terminal as far as O/O's are concerned? I live too far from there to work for them as a co driver but have an offer to buy a truck and work out of memphis in that capacity. Thanks
-
I'm slightly biased, but I wouldn't do it. Course, I don't know all the specifics. I was out of the Lansing, IL terminal #28. Can't honestly comment about other terminals. If I'm not mistaken, the contract for a new truck ends with you buying it or returning it. It's a long time to pay on a truck and still owe $$ once the contract is done.
-
As a Miller O/O can you choose which terminal you run out of or is it assigned by the company?
-
Miller's lease purchase deals on used trucks are zero down and you own it with no buyout after 3 years. They have started something new since I left there where the guys who have already proven themselves can purchase a brand new truck with something like $10,000.00 down and that may have a buyout at the end. I was based out of Orangeburg, SC and found that I always made my best money if I could keep hauling Monomer out of the Memphis area. The only knock about a owner operator being based out of one of the union terminals is that if you are at home you will sit until every company truck has been dispatched out. It's apparently in their contract. Over all it's a good company but 3.5 years of tankers was enough for me.

I found that the Lansing terminal had the cheapest freight in the company and tried to avoid that area.sshewins Thanks this.

They normally assign you to the closest terminal to your home that has owner operators.
-
I would do anything I could to avoid buying a truck from miller. Memphis has decent loads, but you will have company trucks getting the best loads.
Ask Doug about the refusal to work clause in the contract. -
Do you get as many miles you want or does your dispatcher control how much you run?
-
When I was leased to Miller I never turned over 100000 miles in a year. They pay on percentage of revenue and there is far too much sitting between loads, loading & unloading time for mileage pay to work. Unless they drastically changed their system you would unload in the morning, head to the nearest tank wash or terminal and not reload until the next day. They were going to try a forced dispatch to supposedly bring everyone up to an average of 10000 miles a month and that was when I quit. When I first started there they would offer you at least a half dozen loads to choose from when empty but then the recession hit and it all went to hell.
tobie town trucker Thanks this.
