I was challenged by a roommate to go 600 miles a day. I like the 500 a day pace unless I know that I'm in range of something. I've had a 2500 mile load, solo a couple of times, but had to let one go due to hos on a daily basis. Learned a lot over the last three months and to manage time whether to recap or reset and trying to recap when the hours weren't great.

One step that has been left out here, from a former alliance driver that also rescheduled delivery appointments myself, once you get that appointment moved up, notify your DM, and the planner for that region. Get that next load, don't wait on the computer, to assign, as it will not pre assign a load until your original scheduled appointment.

Meat loads I always ran hard, around 600 miles a day... get them off, and to my next load. Which I usually ran at 500 miles a day due to HOS. Also don't refuse those short loads in the northeast, help the planner out, and they will get you that run with the miles, for taking that short hop.

Well it's been a long time since I posted about bonehead mistakes by drivers, but just a sampling from this week:
2 yr driver received a $505 ticket for overweight. Didn't bother to scale a 41,000 load.
Come on people! Stevens pays the scale ticket. What are you thinking?!!
Washouts! What's with drivers and washouts (or lack of)? Stevens pays for washouts and with this new macro that sends the PO and money automatically (no more waiting forever), why not? I cannot begin to count the number of drivers that call from a shipper wanting to know what to do because they're being rejected for a dirty trailer, out of hours and now will be late picking the load up, resulting in being repowered off the load.
When in doubt, wash it out!
    Trip Plan!
Geez! Ever since we dropped Sgt Major's trip plan class (we don't need it now that we have Jezebel!) I am seeing drivers HUNDREDS of miles off course, lost on county roads, going the wrong direction and I'll bet 50% of Grad drivers are not making OTD.
Drivers...learn how logging works and what the rules are! I have had 6 drivers this week that were on the customer property waiting on a door, then ran out of hours and were refusing to back into doors because they didn't want to violate their HOS!
Just last night had a driver load in CA, pull out from the dock and park to do his break...but forgot to close his trailer doors. Can you say 'wilted lettuce'?
I'm not suppose to talk about accidents, but people...watch your mirrors, get out and look and just be aware!
Anytime you need help....ASK! We'd really rather answer a dumb question than have to repower a load because of a dumb mistake.

Okay, who is the dummy, big dummy who thinks jezebel can trip plan for the drivers?

A computer can NEVER out think a human.

What is a washout? I aint got no time to waste setting in line doing a washout... :) ;) :)

My leaf blower did a great job, unless it was a laredo trailer full of dried blood.

So do you get the trailer washout when u picking up a new trailer? Or after u get unloaded? And do you have to wait for trailer to dry? Start class on aug 31...Thinking about Stevens after my community college cdl course here in North carolina

Is it tough driving 600 plus miles a day in your opinion?

600 miles daily is very out of the norm with Stevens. It also is tough day after day to do it. Plan your trip for 500 mile days some you may get more some less. Construction, accidents, pickups and deliveries all get in the way. It is also not all about miles because we have to work within hos if you run out of hours you sit and depending where you run out will depend on when you startup again. Not on a major freight route it could be a bit or a long deadhead if approved.
You need to learn more then driving from your trainer you need to learn who and how to talk to the office people as well as shippers and receivers.
