ECM tuning is the single best thing I did to my Detroit. You don't need to pay the big names and prices. I had Rebel 127 tune mine, he is known for great results at a very reasonable price. It added approx 1 mpg and I can run right by 500 horse factory detroits on the grades. Its enjoyable to drive and I still haven't changed to a good turbo yet.Last edited: Aug 5, 2015

Get a gauge from your dealer for an acert equipped model. It goes to 80. I try to keep it 40 or lower.
I've had it set up this way 250k or so. No problems to date. Also have 5915 injectors.
Stock turbo is out of its effective range over 30psi.areelius Thanks this. -
Are the 5915 injectors the ones that come stock on the 500 horse 12.7 ? I have the stock 470 horse injectors now and they seem OK for my power level. Did Rebel 127 tell you approx how much horsepower he set you at ?

buddy I was playing with calibration settings (you call it tune ) long time a go when I had 12.7l Detroit. it was 200-2002. After that I had few 14L and still could play with calibration settings. today I will not touch the calibration of dd15 epa10 engine. CARB is always nearby and tickets are starting from $4000-5000.. )))

Call him and ask. I didn't talk hp numbers, just what I wanted it to do and how long I wanted it to last.

Buddy what you were doing isn't impressing anyone.Cetane+ Thanks this.

What was your engine factory horsepower ? Mine did not have the piston cooling sprayers so Leon said I shouldn't push it too hard. So I did the same as you, and let him decide. I am happy with 500 wheel horsepower and 7 MPG. Mine won't go past 28 lbs with the stock turbo, so I know there is more power to be had. Yours must be a beast at 40 lbs.

I believe I don't need to push my luck with my 12.7 I don't have any history on it. It already uses 3 gal. of oil every 13k to 14k miles. What year is your truck?
