I'm on parole for burglary (over 25 years ago), I absconded from parole, got caught 25 years later, and am working for Navajo. They've been very fair with me and are good about getting me home when I have a PO appointment.
Don't let a conviction and/or prison time hold you back. You'll never know until you actually talk to a recruiter and explain your situation. I've seen a lot of places that won't look at you if you have a violent crime though... That's a biggie in this industry.

I have a low level misdemeanor on my record (0-30 days) possession of contraband other than drugs/weapons. My lawyer got it dropped to this from the original charge of sale of counterfeit goods less than $2,000, which is also a misdemeanor but a higher level one. Never had any other issues with the law.
Do you think any of this would effect me getting a job?
When they do background check will the arrest record come up or just the conviction?Last edited: Aug 8, 2015

In the state of oregon and wa, you can get an arrest expunged.
-
How long after the arrest? Also can it be expunged after a guilty conviction?
-
Oregon is 5 years from what I read. Its on the counties website.
Every county has there stips of what needs top be met in order to get something expunged, arrest or conviction. They are different stips for each. -
you better go to the office that questioned you and ask why the f did they not update the records?
If what your telling us is accurate, then you should go or call and raise all kinds of hell about this until it reads CLEAR!HorseShoe Thanks this. -
It's only a misdemeanor, most carriers will look at them on a case to case basis. Arrest records usally show wheter you've been convicted or not, you were still arrested, unless of course you can get the arrest record expunged.
-
I can get it all expunged in 3 years, but my guilty plea was in june so I got a while.
I don't know about the arrest record ill have to call my lawyer on Monday thanks for the heads up. -
It's the carriers decision whether they'll hire you, my advice would be to check with an recruiter at the carrier you're tryna get on with. Again, it's a misdemeanor so I don't know how companies deal with them, but I'm sure there are drivers out here with misdemeanor charges that have had no issues getting hired.DC843 Thanks this.
