I haven't signed anything with Miller yet. Haven't been to a terminal yet or interviewed face to face with anyone yet. Talked to recruiter and terminal manager on the phone. Was told by terminal manager " we try to dispatch non company trucks out of memphis at $3300 gross to the truck a week." That sounds mighty low! I was under the influence all these tanker jobs paid so much better than most other type trucking gigs. The more I check the more difficult it is for me to see where all this big money is coming from. Talked to Trimac about a company driver job and was told "run 3 to 4 weeks out and you could average $1000-$1200 gross per week." That sounds mighty low also! If pay is so different from branch to branch or terminal to terminal, cant figure why someone would want want to work there.

When I first started I ran pretty steady for the first 6 months and made over $100,000.00 to the truck.
Then that recession hit and even after it ended it just never seemed to be the same again. When he says
" we try to dispatch non company trucks out of memphis at $3300 gross to the truck a week." it sounds like they have stuck to that forced dispatch that I quit over and I just could never see myself working on percentage of revenue and having someone else decide how much money I should make a week. -
Miller is forced dispatch, every now and then they offer a choice.
Memphis is not a good terminal for owner operator if your looking for money, if you want to get home all the time it's perfect.
The 3300 a week sounds like dedicated runs, easy work but less money.Mattaponi Guard Thanks this. -
Thanks for the info drivers. Was offered a job out of texas running van for 50 cents, all miles paid by the hub. Stay out all you want and go home whenever you want as long as you average at least 8000 mile a month. No limit on how much you want to work. Was hoping tanker could give me all the miles I wanted but just not gonna work out.

Coyote, I thought Doug left recruiting and went to Greensboro to be the terminal manager. When I applied a couple of years ago, I talked to Doug. Nice guy. Due to some things that came up at home, I didn't pull the trigger to leave the company I am still employed with. A year or so ago, I noticed his name (1st and last) as the GBO terminal manager. Am I thinking of the same person?
edited to add: I went to the Miller website and looked at the GBO location. There is now someone else listed as the terminal manager. Maybe Doug was only the manager for a little while. -
You had it right Alpha, Doug is back to recruiting. The new guy in Greensboro is from Mobile, and IMO will make a great TM.
Miller is undergoing a lot of changes right now, they are losing drivers faster than they can recruit.
I'm even talking with landstar as a result of millers new dispatch system.88 Alpha Thanks this. -
Does Miller offer insurance, tags and fuel discounts through the company for owner operators?

Tags and insurance, yes.
Fuel discount is yes and no.. They offer 2 cent discount but it costs $2.50 for each use of the card. -
