I really don't look at it that way.

A load pays $xxx.xx to take it from city Y to city Z. The mileage is an estimate of my fuel cost to run the load.

Don't know what the big deal is. The main thing is that it is consistent. Know how it works, book the best load for you, and move on. Don't see the big deal.
Is it worth it or not? That's it.

Any time I get my hands on a new trailer I get a drop and hook to a old one. If I start the week with an old one it's all live loads and I can't get rid of it.

    Hegemeister and TennMan Thank this.
  5. I've read through this thread and as someone who's been running refrigerated for the past 6 years, sounds like you guys got it made over at Schneider. It seems someone with the right attitude and work ethic could really be successful there. While I appreciate all of the changes you all would make, it's already better than my current lease, so I may have to come on over.

So Dallas to Dallas Schneider does for free.

    How about Laredo to Laredo.

    Atlanta to Atlanta ?

I guess your correct Schneider always errs in the Drivers favor.

If that's how you look at it fine I'm not saying that this program still isn't worth doing. However we all know everything in Trucking is based on miles.

So if a load pays 500 miles actual at 2 dollars a mile to Schneider and Schneider uses HHMG to offer the load at say 467 miles at 2 dollars a mile that's a 66 dollar difference between actual and HHMG.

Why shouldn't us drivers be paid the 66 we are the ones who are footing the bill.

Not trying to insult anyone but if we just keeping believing the exact same bs the companies tell us ( and yes in 1997 when I started driving they have been using the same excuses) then we will never be able to grow.

Wait that's what they want is us to be sheeple.

Honestly, that's about the only way it makes sense to me.......is it worth it or not.
That said, I hate to think people think we're stupid......I guess that's my biggest gripe

It is easy here..we just complain like..well drivers.
It could be better but you can put together a good paying week with some good trip planning and common sense.

What it does is give you a good idea on what it's like to be a contractor..not a independent contractor.
As much as we would like to believe we are IC's that's just not the case..but that's another story for another day.
You'll quickly outgrow the Choice program once you figure out how to shake and bake.
I'm trying to figure if it's in my best interest to get my own authority..still running the numbers and getting my ducks lined up.

Overall the Schneider Choice program is very good..just needs some issues addressed.
Nothing is perfect so take that with a grain of salt.

  10. I've been a lease driver for a while. I've already paid off a truck, but I didn't save money in terms of having a good chunk to be able to rebuild the motor so I sold it and started over. You're right though, a lot of drivers just complain. Why would you day that you outgrew the choice program? The money isn't what you thought it would be or is it something else? Thanks, ry

No the money is fine..I just don't like how we're treated.
    Meaning this:
We are NOT independent contractors..we have no say in ANY negotiation..yes we knew this coming in wehn we signed the AGREEMENT.
I'm just trying to open a few eyes here about what a IC is.
Our time means absolutely NOTHING to Schneider..detention is a joke.
Company drivers get paid detention after 2 hours..why are we different..we incur more costs when delayed.
When we book a preload/drop and it turns into a live load/unload on either end..we have to just grin and bare it.
Sorry buddy no cash for waiting..see above.

Those are my biggest gripes..there are others but nothing major.

On the flip side we are paid on time..things get forgotten but they're good about getting it right.
We do have control over where/when and how much we run for..plus going home is not an issue.
Overall it's a good program and I recommend it to anyone with experience.

As for outgrowing it..I can do the math pretty well and know what it takes to be profitable.
Yes I have a few things to learn about before considering the switch to O/O with my own authority.
But I'm not that far away..
