@tsavory Had to take a picture of this one, at the bottom it notes about the 5/16 WLL difference being due to nominal and actual chain . Took it out of the cargo securement handbook, table is identical and same one used in 393.108 in the fmcsa rules and regulations![]()

Hmm just something that popped out at me thanks for the clarification.

Headed to maine. Haven't been to maine in years.CanadianVaquero, Rugerfan, truckon and 2 others Thank this. -
I have been out of flatbed so long, that I think I may have lost some of my knowledge.. I know that it needs to be done, but I don't really know the reason why... Just curious...
Can someone explain to me the reasoning why a direct tie down only gets 50% of the WLL and why the indirectly gets 100% .. I would think that if your not sharing a tie down to the other side of the trailer then wouldn't that be a stronger way of chaining down?? The only reason I can think of is because you are using 2 trailer tie downs instead of one trailer tie down.... If your hook a bear trap from machine to a chain hooked to trailer I would think that is better then running a chain the width of the trailer to a bear trap... -
a 345 with the counterweight off and bucket off goes about 85k to 89k depending on the model. with counter weight and bucket 105k to 110k depending on model. Maryland only requires police escorts 150000 or more now. for a while they were requiring police over 130000. but they rescinded that when it tied up to many cops.

PA wants you to pull hills at 40 mph or more or have escort, per the provishions, I was 144 and was 41-42 on 80 to lockhaven & back to OH. C16 dynoed at 571

I would say it's because an indirect tie down spreads the force between two anchor points. A direct tie down all the force is one on anchor point.

What the heck are those?? Some sort of underground leaching chambers for stormwater?? Fryburg's ok, I drag rebar into the Harmac plant there every now and again.............come back for the fair in October!
-
That's exactly what they are. Went into the new school, under what will be the new parking lot.
Do you get the bar direct out of Nucor or go thru a broker? I see it posted pretty often thru brokers. I got the info to set up with the local Nucor plant direct, doesn't do me much good tho. All stuff that goes to places I really don't have contacts ie fryeburgKenworthGuyNH Thanks this. -
Direct. I fail to see the need for a broker when places like Nucor are so easy to deal with directly.
