Flatbed work or Municipal Waste?

    I am getting my own authority this month and I'm stuck between hauling Municipal Waste or doing flatbed work with Cambria in MN. Has anyone ever hauled for Cambria in MN? I've been told they have runs from MN to NY or PA. I hear they pay well if you work directly with them, no brokers.

    I am currently leased to company in NJ and mainly do port work, but have plenty of experience with Flatbed work. I do well, but I know I'm losing out on a lot of money so I've finally decided to go on my own with my 3 trucks.

    Which do you guys think is more lucrative? Also, does anyone have any good brokers for flatbed work, in the event I can't seal a deal with Cambria?

    I'll take any advice anyone can give. Thanks

    My trucks work as O/Os for the company i'm Leased to. I'm looking to own my loads and get my own accounts. I will pay my drivers a rate for the moves rather than splitting 50/50 on everything. They do well $1300-1700 a week, but I know I can do much better on my own and so will they.

    why not both? The municipal waste will always be there year round and consistent money. We have one account that we haul for because of that very thing. One truck is dedicated to rhat account and others added as needed.

    I've hauled some racks made out of 2x4's back to them. It felt like I was hauling a parachute. We used to have a guy that worked for us that hauled some loads out of there. I can recall he said tarping it was kind of tough. Lots of sharp edges.

    Actually they are very easy to tarp, throw a couple of moving blankets over the top, two 4' tarps and bungee down. You can get in and out of there pretty quick, and once its all tarp'd they don't pull bad at all. I used to pull out of there pretty regular when I was with Mercer.

    When I hauled the racks back I brought them to the old dog food plant in Le Sueur.

    If you ever want some interesting reading check out the story of the family that owns Cambria. Incredible what they did starting out farming and how they turned it into the business they have.
