I strongly suspect that nowadays the fumes from our cars are the least of our concerns.
Everything around us from what we put on our skin by choice, to what we put in our mouth's to eat, to what we wear, sleep in, sleep on everything around us from what we put on our skin by choice, to what we put in our mouth's to eat, to what we wear, sleep in, sleep on or just generally come into contact with on a daily basis has much more risk than what we give.
Sure, exhaust from vehicles is bad for us. We've known that for quite some time. The risk originally came from carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.
I always hate to sound like Mr. conspiracy theory, but I often wonder if the risk stated about many things today is mostly a cover and diversion from the things that hurt us the most. And I am not simply speaking of chemicals when I say the things that hurt us.
Food for thought?

In a nutshell: yes, this is something we should watch and be careful of. But there are much bigger fish to be fried and taken care of first.Straight Stacks Thanks this.

I think the cause of cancer in humans is accumulative! When our eyes water and we experience dizziness, unlike a field mouse trapped in a container filled with diesel exhaust, we leave the area.
I enjoyed most science classes when I was a kid, but was kind of turned off when we were asked to measure how many drops of water filled a 16 oz glass, and how many filled the class to heaping... I think the kids that enjoyed that class and did well, are now conducting these experiments! -
YUMmmmmm fried fish. I know, it can cause cancer too.

Friday at the TA?
Straight Stacks and Mr.X Thank this. -
You can definitely get cancer from diesel fumes but only in the state of California, if you also smoke it's a sure thing but it probably isn't the cigarette, it's got to be the oil companies adding carsinogens.

I'm curious when you say cumulative. Do you mean that the effects of everything we do as a single person accumulates and therefore increases the chances of one single person getting cancer? Or, Are you referring to a generational accumulation?
For example, a person eating fish from a tainted source could potentially develop lead poisoning after eating enough of the fish. That is personal accumulation.
Generational accumulation would be something closer to The effects that are still being seen from when tetraethyl lead was being used as a fuel additive to reduce the knocking in engines in the earlier days of cars. -
OMG you went to a university, I can tell. You must depart from this forum and never return if you value your sanity.

Like a farmer who smokes, sprays pesticides and defoliants, welds... Probably wasn’t just breathing the exhaust from the John Deer 820 that gave him lung cancer.

I don’t know, I didn’t sense any arrogance in his reply.
