After having a few local jobs I agree, it ain't for me. I sleep better in the truck anyway.

A good job that hires from certain approved schools I've read is Loves fuel haulers. Talk to their hiring manager what school they take recent grads and see if their hiring. And if they take inexperience drivers. They like to train people their way so I think that's why they take recent school grads. From what I've read good company and pay especially for a new driver.

Intermodal would be your best bet since that is no touch freight and local work (though there is regional intermodal). It's straight drop and hooks and when you have the occasional live load/unload you want be loading or unloading the freight at least on the rail side. Some places will take new hires however most want some driving experience first though. Since the rails are 24/7 don't expect to get a shift starting during in the morning Monday to Friday right off the bat though. In terms of what endorsements you'll need Hazmat is definitely needed but you should just get them all anyway so you have them if you ever want to go into a different part of the industry.

Schlepping those tanker hoses around for $148,000.00 a year doesn't sound worth it?
That's how much my buddy made last year working for Nuverra in Watford City North Dakota working nine months out of the year and taking three months off....

Well I made a meager average of about 130k a yr for 3 yrs (in the early 80's) fishing crab on the Bering Sea, and the lowest paid guy in the entire fleet probably broke 100k. We fished less than 150 days a year!
~Derby fishing came to an end~
Now since the Government stepped in it seems the fleet has shrunk to about .25% of its original size.
I didnt pack up and head for ND for a good reason!
I am happy for anyone who cashed in and got the heck out, but kind of feel bad for guys like the new Flatbed O/O I stopped and taught how to tarp his load a few months ago, who evidently didnt work for the same outfit your wealthy buddy did!

I know a couple guys that did good, but they have moved on for now!

Very true! Been learning some new routes from the young guys lately. Me biting my lip when they drive, but learning some new tricks from them, and them staring in amazement when I drive, lol
