Owner has a bootleg vcads setup but hasn't been able to find any obvious boost setting. He'd like to lower it because he's running with a cracked head (until he can bank enough to replace the head) and any boost over 25 or 30ish blows all the water out the system, lol.
Anyone know if there's a mechanical way to limit the boost on a D13 from this era, or any other way?
08 780 D13 - possible to limit boost pressure?

I don't think it's possible to limit boost on D13 just dont press the accelerator as hard and that's only way but when it comes time to regen he's going to blow all that #### out anyway, and make sure it's head and not cups or cracked liner

Cups were just replaced (and apparently engine already had the new steel cups which the shop neglected to tell him so probably they didn't need replacing anyway).
Mechanic said he's never seen a blown head gasket on a D13 but has seen cracked heads. I want to be sure too but the only way to do that is to pull the head, not really something he's in a position to do himself.
He also *cough* has the regen canister completely pulled and a little fish tank aerator air pump pressurizing the delta p which is extending the time between needed vcad resets of the derate events.
Like I said, limping along.
I see your avatar/ASE patch - have you seen many bad head gaskets on D13s? Or any? -
No bad head gaskets not even one on d12 or d13 not as many cracked head on either one. About six months ago we had to remove head about 3 times on one engine until we finaly saw cylinder number 3 with a hairline crack on the liner after that we did the rebuilt and never had any issues but it was a lot of down time most of the time if the shop that did the cups is good then its not cups but sometimes these shops are #### specially when it comes to volvo engines and they break more #### than they fix i have seen it a couple of times cups being done and still makes pressure because they did not properly clean the seating surface for the cup or did now properly swedge it in there like its supposed to be, In your case im sure time will tell if they send the head out the machine shop should be able to tell if the head is cracked.

Hi, Egr cooler should be check first in your situation of air in the cooling system with high boost.
Hope this can help.
BenKB3MMX Thanks this. -
^^ Had this on D16. Like Ben said, new EGR cooler fixed it.
