Losing your licence. Advice?

i got a warning for my cdl in utah. i've only got ONE speeding and it's over 20 months. took utah 18 months to send the letter.

as for the utah speeding in july 2013. utah didn't START testing 80 mph speeds till sept. 2013. 3 months ago they made it officially and added more miles. if the op got his ticket in july, the speed limit would have been 75, or 65 depending on where he was at.

i got a 20 in cali. on the grapevine. hired lawyer and it was changed to logbook.
i got a wrong lane in utah recenty, it was changed to no parking.

in states like new mexico and wyoming, your kinda screwed. but other states are worth hiring lawyers. it's ridiculous how the fines vary by state though. some are cheap, some are pricey. for the same violations

Years ago Road & Track (or maybe Car & Driver) set out to prove that race car drivers are safer than the average motoring public. What they found was that said drivers do indeed have fewer accidents, but that the severity of accidents was much, much worse.

Yes, even if it means overtime pay. They also get in trouble if they don't show up, so unless a legit emergency comes up, count on CHP showing up.

 

92mph in the 80= 12 mph over (good)
72 mph in 55mph zone= 17mph (Bad)
64mph in 55mph zone=9mph over (Good)

The FMCSA regulation: states for second offense, (that means two separate incidents speeding 15 mph or more)

§ 383.51: Disqualification of drivers:
Speeding excessively, involving any speed of 24.1 kmph (15 mph) or more above the regulated or posted speed limit 60 days , (Second Offense).

Tell you buddy, he should be good...eh, that is after he's paid the fine & cost of court...pricey.

Ask an atty: some States have devices like adjudication or name it by some other means where the affect, you may pay a fee and they will either make the speed charge go away or they will reduce the total mph over the speed limit to one mile or two miles below the magic number: 15mph or more than posted speed limit. Where your final charge maybe 13mph above the posted speed. (ask your atty...the driver needs one.)

 

I'm sure dot has their own authority when it comes to the CDL ensorsement. You can drive a car but not a truck.

However, if the state suspends. You can't drive either.

I could be wrong though.

 

You may not want to hear it OP, but 3 tickets in the timespan you describe means he is not a good driver.

 

Incorrect information, Utah began the experimental 80 mph sections on I-15 north of Beaver and south of Nephi in 2008, other sections were added in 2013 and the rest in 2015.

Not so "good" in any case with a CA CDL. Holding a Class A license, by CA Code 12810.5b VC " a violation received in a commercial vehicle carries 1 1/2 times the point count normally assessed (12810.5b VC). " so: beginning in 2013 so all are within the 3 year #'s 1,2,and 3;
#1, out of state, 92 in 80 = 1.5
#2, out of state, 72 in 55 = 1.5 / with a potential add on charge of reckless, additional 3.0
#3, in State, 64 in 55 = 1.5
Potential total accumulated point count at 7.5 ...

No matter how you twist this scenario, this "driver" needs to get his fat foot out of the accelerator and learn how to manage his time and money better. I just don't understand why so many are in such a rush to get somewhere knowing they are most likely to be sitting and waiting to get a dock and/or to get unloaded.

 

Just did that wonderful I-5 run from L.A. home to Sac....by any chance, was that citation around Buttonwillow in the construction zone? Most likely so, so double the points and the fine for #3!
