Ahh enjoy 1984 glade I quit if op is posting the truth there is no way in hell I could have put up with that. Just think any time you are on the Bluetooth talking to your better half or a family member. A portion of your phone call is potentially listened onto. And I saw how they mounted them on the Cascadia. You have to use the back curtain. Becusa the window curtain is behind the camera. But some embrace 1984 with arms wide open.

There is absolutely no reason I can think of for a driver facing camera to be recording when the truck is stopped. Correct me if I am wrong. We all know the horrors that can happen on the internet.....FB postings, UTube, ect. It isn't hard to envision some moron at Swift thinking how funny it would be to broadcast in cab goings on in a variety of places. Talk about liability issues!

The one thing you all are overlooking, or weren't aware of for whatever reason, is that although the camera records constantly, data is only saved during a perceived critical event...such as hitting a bump, at which time the recording 10 seconds before and 10 seconds after are saved. Everything else is recorded over. So, while you are seeing that little red light all the time and everything is constantly being recorded, not all of it is being saved. And it's the paranoid conspiracy pushers who are crying the loudest about all of this.

The information we've been given is that NO ONE will be watching us as we drive or during our time off duty. They just are not interested in that, nor would it be cost effective. I mean think about it. Can you imagine the workforce Swift would have to hire just to watch video feeds from 16,000+ trucks 24/7? Seriously? You really think this cheap-e$$ company is gonna spend that kind of money just to watch you spank your monkey? You must really think yourself important.

This is funny. Y'all cry that Swift doesn't give a crap about their drivers, but you claim they're willing to lay out that kind of cash just to spy on you. LMFAO!!!!!!!!!HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong here. I'm not some troll that doesn't even drive for Swift. I've been with Swift for 5 1/2 years and for the most part, I'm pretty happy here. I'm not saying Swift is perfect, but they have treated me pretty well, keep me rolling even as I read about you other drivers are stuck sitting for days (I have NEVER been stuck sitting for days), and I have yet to see another company that is going to pay as well as I'm making right now.

I don't have a camera in my truck yet, but I know it's coming. And just like the stupid On Guard system that is on my truck, I will adapt and learn from it. I don't like the idea of having a driver facing camera, but I won't have much choice. All I can do is drive as safely as possible and cover the camera when I'm parked.

Yep you're right the camera only has 20 seconds of footage saved at any given time. That's why the device only has 50mb of internal data storage, that's all it needs.

....oh wait, it actually has 4 gigs of storage, enough to store one hour of 720p HD video.

We have cameras at my company and it works like this: the physical device actually stores hours of footage, but only uploads a pre-set amount of footage (20 seconds) to the cloud. The company can access a days worth of footage with physical access to the device. My co worker was recently side swiped while on his shift and for some reason the footage didn't upload when he hit the button. So my company went through the hours of data saved on the device to find it manually.

    Say cheese!

Oh and remote viewing is absolutely possible and is actually a feature that many of these camera companies advertise. Will they be watching every driver 24/7? No, impossible like you said. But you better believe they will be "tuning in" to problem drivers, or someone under a hyper focus load whose half hour break is running a little long...

The ones that swift have received have enough storage on board to hold an hour and a half of video. Its tied into the Qualcomm so hard breaking will trigger it rough road will trigger it, on guard will trigger it etc...

Also talk to my best friend that is very high up in company they are getting the drive cams from. They are working on tying it on GPS and speed so if you are doing 3 mph over the speed limit it will trigger it. And yes they can live watch you. but there is a caveat it will be slow because of the 3G there will be a lot of buffering impractical and very costly, but can be done.

Have fun and remember it's FOR YOUR SAFTY AND A TEACHING TOOL.

Your right they can't watch 24/7 356 days 16000 truck drivers ....... BUT any time that light is on unless it's defected its saveing it. . They main storage facilities can store around 15 hours pre truck before they write over it. But they (swift) can audit oh let's say 2 to 5 trucks each terminal a month and go over that 15 hours of video. And they get to nitpick and second guess all your decisions.
