My wish would be not to quit my current job, but get trucking experience slowly doing a part time job, for a future full time job, I would not care about pay I'm only interested in acquiring experience for a maximum of 2 years.

So are there part time 4-5 hour jobs that pays peanuts even close to nothing, or should I completely forget about that?

rule out any of the big companies, the only chance you will have is a local delivery company. coke, pepsi, budwieser, coors, probably a lot more. go to the part of your town that has warehouses and go door to door seeing If any have part time work, I know they normally pay out overtime a lot, so they might like the idea of not having to wory about it.

also like dude above said check craigslist and indeed.

can I ask why you are against starting with a full time position? time flys by in trucking at least for me it does full time shifts trucking go by twice as fast as part time hours with my old "store associate" type jobs. your always engaged and on the move.

    good luck!

Keep in mind that if you are working a full time job and get a part time driving job, your hours at your full time job have to be logged as On Duty. So, a company that runs E-logs would probably not hire you just because of the headache involved with dispatch having to manually insert your hours at your full time job. It wouldn't stop me from applying to those companies. Just saying not to expect much. A company running paper logs would probably hire you though.

There is a such thing. We have a couple part timers. I never see them but they work when they want too.

Depending on where you are, there are temporary employment agencies that hire drivers for full an part time jobs for local companies.

There are absolutely part time driving positions with smaller business. Try wrecker services, lumber yards, concrete plants hauling concrete or sand/gravel dump beds... all sorts of part time opportunities. Apply for a school buss route or even a substitute bus driver... the list goes on & on.

Look experience counts when it comes down to part time work. Insurance dictates a lot but a lot of companies like the temp company I work for won't hire people without a few years experience. We have three or four part time people who will be either on call or fill in at times when a driver is off but a customer needs someone to drive.
