I'm wondering what kind of break they are getting on the insurance side. They're paying the cam company a lot for sure

No big deal. There are far bigger issues facing the industry. If you don't want to drive a company unit with a camera, run your own rig.

There's another guy over in the Melton thread arguing about how much he loves his cam.

Keep in mind that in the kind of litigious society we live in, the same things that people say can exonerate us can also hang us. I have a major issue with driver facing cams as a privacy issue. Those in favor of increased snooping on citizens say "Well, if you aren't doing anything wrong, you have nothing to fear." I realize it's not an exact quote, but I'm pretty sure the Nazis said the same thing.

I fail to see how it would protect a driver. If an accident is not the driver's fault, a forward facing camera would show this. I think cameras that show more outside angles, like maybe show what the mirrors should the driver, might help in some cases. But even if a driver cam shows that the driver was paying attention, it doesn't exonerate him, if it's his fault it's his fault, if it's not it's not. Paying attention doesn't make it not your fault if you screw up.

All it can do "in your favor" is to not show anything that can be used against you, it can't actually help you.
