uh.......not them kind of toothpicks, the ones that were dipped. But if someone did not like tootpicks there were always the black/yellow/clear etc. pills that would do the job too.

I remember one company from the mountains of NC used to provide all the help you needed and pay a $500 bonus to make it from Charlotte to Shaky in 36 hours. Those were the bad old days.

Those are part of the reasons that drivers now have HOS mandates from the government.
-
They had them back then, they just did not enforce them as much. You could always run around the scales, and they had very few mobile DMV officers.

Of course all of that was very unhealthy too.

And unsafe not only for the truck driver, but also the other drivers on the road with that driver.Rick Brown Thanks this.

Honestly, if you want something to boost you back up, why not go with a smart drug to help you focus and keep you motivated? Coffee can only do so much for you till it wears out.

If that driver never encounters big city rush hour traffic, I wager his odds of having a car vs truck accident are much lower than a well rested city driver, or OTR trying to make an AM dock appt.
Almost everybody I know has trouble at AM and PM twilight.
If people are different in so many ways, what makes it so darned hard to comprehend that some people have different sleep requirements?
Our HOS laws are based on statistics which are derived from selective studies and piss poor data gathering practices, and they are always imposed on us drivers. Why are there no guidelines for shippers/receivers? IMHO If the parameters of the federal laws allowed drivers to shut-down at twilight, and skip runnin the rush hour traffic,(imposed guidelines on shippers/receivers) I bet we could run without log books and still have fewer accidents.
I was raised on a row crop farm, during harvest we worked all day and most of the night hauling produce to cold storage. Later on I fished on the Bering Sea. Im not the only one out here with this kind of back ground! IMO to state that 30 hrs of straight driving is safe is absolute BS, however I drove 20 hrs a day for several years, stopping for naps to miss those big city rush hours, and in 31 yrs have no accidents and only one speeding ticket (6 over).Cottonmouth85 Thanks this.
