Yes I agree I went out west for good money and to FL for good money but could not find anything back to NC worth my time and energy to get home from a 10 day trip to see my family. I would rather go home empty then spend 2 more days on the road for a load that doesn't even cover my fuel back. I tried to find something along 95 but might be a bad time for them too cause wasn't much available worth while.

Freddy I do believe we could make a sticker with that saying and sell them to trucks to cover our cost of having to get out of FL. Haha

Flatbed out of Florida isn't much better. There are loads leaping off the boards at 1.00-1.10 a mile including tarp and tolls pay. It costs about 100 in fuel to move from Tampa FL to Ga and better paying loads.

compare these 2 runs for 800 rate confirmation.... 1 CHEAP and 1 better but includes 400 deadhead miles

    1) 800 mile run from Florida to NC @ 1.00 =800 - 360 fuel cost at 6mpg loaded = 440.00

    2) 400 mile deadhead to GA 130g fuel at 8mpg empty = 130 fuel cost
    to pick up a 2.00 cpm 400mile run to NC = 800 - 180 fuel cost at 6mpg loaded 800-130-180= 490.00

So for the same 800.00 in revenue, distance and time, the second scenario has 400 empty miles which are better fuel economy and easier on truck/tires plus net 50.00 more to the truck in fuel savings and a lot more satisfaction knowing I didn't pull a 1.00cpm load.

Can't go east can't go west can't go south Florida dead end state. Learn the produce seasons then you won't be disappointed on low rates outa season. And flat never go there unless it pays going in. But i don't haul just for the sake of having something in the box or on the deck that cheap stuff can rot or sit I'll bounce empty for better load that's worth my time.

The only reason those rates are so cheap is because someone is taking them for the cheap rate. I only go to Florida and a few other areas when I get a rate going in that is high enough to pay me to deadhead back to a decent freight area. I refuse to haul anything that is below a certain rate. If I can't make a fair profit by hauling a load, it doesn't go on my truck. I see no reason why I or anyone else would haul freight just to put something on the trailer. Most of the time I don't even bother to try and find something in a bad freight area, such as Florida. I may try on the way down, but don't waste time waiting on a load that will never come. I find that it is less costly and more profitable to put it in the wind and get to a better freight area. I have been around this business for a very long time and am still amazed at how many people will still take freight that pays so little to the truck. On a few occasions, I have managed to find a decent paying load out of Florida, but those have been very rare. I never count on finding something when I go into the state.

Would be great if someone could organize companies and independents to stop the rate insanity.

The solution is simple, don't haul it.....but unless there is an organized effort in the industry it'll never change.

Florida can go screw off, I run empty out of that state.

I live in Florida and its hit or miss for me. Granted I'm home and can afford to sit a extra day or two when I take a week off but more than likely I'm bouncing to north fl to get something decent. Right now I see a load posted on our board for 1.36 PM. I just shake my head at that.
