Was the trucker at fault?

It dont even look real, it looks like something staged for a safety video.

I get into situations like that all the time with my local job, just let them turn, then I turn. Actually its amazing how many 4 wheelers actually will stop and hold traffic back for me.
Of coarse I start out with my trlr blocking that right lane and turn signal on, but some turns are tight enough you about gotta have your trlr tracking in that second turn lane by the time you actually take the turn.
Would be nice if 4wheelers learned a bit more about trucks when they get they’re license, hell most of them dont even know what to do when they get to a 4 way stop,lol.

 

The truck driver was a moron and 100% at fault. Why was he straddling the lanes? There is no valid reason for it. This is at the Otay Mesa Pilot, turning from Piper Ranch Road southbound onto Otay Mesa Road westbound (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Pilot+Travel+Center/@32.5677121,-116.9537595,102m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x80d94644816257d9:0x3d09dd5145687dcf!6m1!1e1). Given the width of the right lane and the fact that on Otay Mesa there is a curb parking/bus lane, there is more than enough room to make a safe right turn from the middle lane to the middle lane without encroaching on the right lane. In fact, it appears the truck is actually making the turn from the middle lane into the right lane around the corner on Otay Mesa Road, trying to beat traffic instead of waiting... a doubly stupid move. You can see that initially the car started to go about the same time as the truck, but then stopped. While the car didn't position themselves the best under the circumstances, it is still 100% the idiot truck driver.

Also, although where the camera truck stopped isn't ideal, it had no bearing on the accident.

 

I thought it was a spare for when someone knocks off my driver side mirror at a truckstop

 

I wonder which lane they want left-turning trucks to use?



Yeah, I know the thread is old....recorded the video in a timely manner, just didn't get it uploaded 'til now.

 

The only way it could not have been the truck drivers fault is if I was the driver.

It is unfortunate that the driver was most likely fired.

 

I try not to bring my previous career up buttt........It looks from the short clip the truck had established right of way on the roadway and shouldn't be at fault. Though again I wish I could see more of the clip.

 

You have to be smarter than the average dummy. Which isn't saying alot these days. Both were stupid. One has an incident and the other a wrecked car.

So, the truck doesn't have signs on it indicating "vehicle makes a wide right turn". That said, the 4-wheeler is more at fault, if you watch closely, the they both encroach on the cross walk, a no-no. The 4-wheeler, as others have pointed out, does try to take the turn at the same time as the truck. From my perspective, they are both at fault, and, having had a coworker go through this several years back, it's quite possible the 4-wheeler will be the one cited. If the cops were to view that video, and see the truck is splitting the turn lane, they would most likely put the blame on the car.
