I have about 15 months experience driving and I have been talking to a guy about driving for him. He has newer equipment, .50 cpm all miles, layover pay, detention pay, etc....But it is a 1099 deal. Please give me some insight about this. I have read other posts about the 1099 on here and everybody says you need to be paid at least .50cpm or more to do that. Some advise to run away.......Thanks to all that reply.
1099? Run now?

I've never liked the 1099 operations. It's shady business in my opinion. You work for someone therefor you are an employee and need a W2.

Here's the thing... not only will you have to pay quarterly payroll taxes but also self employment taxes. So, in general, your taxes will go up.
But then you get no benefits... no health, dental, retirement, vacation, etc. That stuff costs money, too.
In this easy job market, its probably best you keep looking. Just my 2 cents. -
Yeah I have a +5 points Virginia driving record..which is perfect. I live in the Staunton, Virginia area.

i say go for it, then be broke, and needing health care, and you have to pay out of pocket.
is that 50¢ per mile for all LOADED miles, only..???? will you get dead head pay..???
by the time you pay into your taxes, i think you may actually be netting $30,000 a year.many janitors make that much, especially school janitors.
the perfect job for some.....Straight Stacks, Toomanybikes and lots of character Thank this. -
I say run...1099 is shady in my opinion for obvious reasons...however there is a member here named Hurst who makes a good case for it in certain situations.
If you have a family stick with W2.HorseShoe Thanks this. -
Figure out what the employer liabilities would be in your state and then decide! Not paying industrial insurance is actually a perk, because you can have a private insurance company that wont fight you tooth and nail when/if you get hurt or disabled....
If the truck is capable of running the speed limit, you get paid actual miles or decent percentage of revenue, and he keeps you loaded then you might do pretty good! -
It's .50 for all miles.
